There is nothing in that article to say that the airport bus isn't going to happen, just that a city report says it probably won't turn a profit. Where in North America is there a public transit line that consistently makes money? A quick look at the comments and it seems like people are personally offended that a report says this bus could cost money. The title is more than a tad misleading though...

With the opening of Southgate and CP Stations coming up fast, I won't be surprised to hear more regarding the potential for future bus service to YEG. However, I'm not overly optimistic.

I don't want to have to wait until 2052 (I'll be more than likely six feet under by that time anyway) to see any public transit to YEG.

It seems like WestJet has made some interesting mistakes in the last couple of years. This Financial Post story a month ago really hammers them.

I found this part of the article interesting.

In particular, in recent months, WestJet has seriously botched the implementation of its new SabreSonic reservation system leading to long call-centre wait times and damaging the airline's cherished reputation for customer service.

The rocky transition also delayed its new loyalty program, which was meant to be launched last June but was only implemented two weeks ago to mixed reviews. The troubles also pushed backed its new code-share agreement with Air France/KLM, which was meant to be in place by the end of 2009, into 2011.

"Mr. Durfy's resignation [late Monday] was unexpected, although not tremendously surprising to us," said Ben Cherniavsky, Raymond James analyst, who added that there have been mounting reports of "internal unrest" at WestJet in the past year.

In addition, the carrier has a cutthroat corporate culture under founder and chairman Clive Beddoe, despite its sunny "WestJetter" image.

In recent years, at least five top executives have either left or been shown the door after running amuck with Mr. Beddoe's direction for the airline.

In 2000, then-president, Stephen Smith left the airline just 19 months into his term after running afoul of the airline's chairman.

"He has changed all the executives and some of them twice," one former executive said Tuesday.

Those familiar with the situation at WestJet have said that tensions have mounted since the botched implementation of the reservation system in October.

I rather see them partner with Delta so it may be a very good move, time will tell.

Let's face it, Westjet has evolved away from the Southwest model quite a bit. It makes much more sense to see them get into bed with carriers that have an equal product to what they offer on board right now.

Beddoe is still very much calling some of those big shots over there, at least that is what a lot of rumours I hear say.

Well, he is chair of the board. The board provides strategic direction while the executives implements the board's visions.

I am surprised WestJet would go towards SkyTeam however, oneworld provides more network connectivity at this time. The choice of SkyTeam points towards a much larger WestJet including trans-atlantic over the next decade me thinks.

I have noticed on flightaware for YEG a number of flights this past week by RyanAir USA flying from Lisbon to YEG via either Chicago or Winnipeg using 767-300's.Military charters???

DMONTON — Edmonton Transit officials have a green light to start negotiations for setting up a bus service to the Edmonton International Airport.

Councillors voted unanimously Wednesday to move forward with talks about a daily route between the Century Park LRT station and the airport from early morning until after midnight.

re: bus transit to the airport... good to see this being discussed again. Saving an extra $50 in fuel/taxi/parking is yet another reason for people not to go to YYC

The thought of LRT from Bay to CP with my pass then a small fee to grab the bus to YEG is so tantalizing.

I hope this means I may never have to drive anyone to the airport ever again.

The thought of just dropping them off at Century Park to let them ride the bus the rest of the way is great.

I get free parking at the airport so taking the bus is a little less tantilizing, but nice to know there's an option available other than taking a cab
