I scored an 83 (northern fringe of Buena Vista). There were a few head scratchers in there. I had no idea Clans on Broadway was a grocery store. Their data is a few years out of date. Lots of places listed aren't there anymore. So sad.

This would be a good tool for the city to use to make smart development, just saturate the city with amenities.

I don't put much faith in that walk score. It might give you a rough idea, but it seems pretty out of date. I put in the address for a house I've been looking at in Cathedral in Regina and it gives a score of 51. It's got an embroidery shop listed as a store, no transit information (the bus stops half a block away on 13th Ave and goes all the way up and down that street which is full of shops an restaurants, then heads straight downtown...), it's missing a number of stores including two convenience stores and a Safeway. It also has a Chili's restaurant listed as being two blocks away which is about 7km west of where it actually is.

I went to MLS and checked the walk score for the first downtown home address I found in Regina. Gives a score of 91. Did the same for Saskatoon and got 88. I'm certain it would vary depending on the location of the particular address you were looking at. The one I picked in Regina is fairly central, and I'm not totally clear on the boundaries of Saskatoon's downtown without actually being there! It was a condo above the Uptown Market according to the listing (and that doesn't appear on the walk score, obviously.

It would probably be a little higher if transit info was available. There are of course some stores I haven't heard of. Not totally accurate but gives us a general idea of how neighborhoods compare. Good stuff.

Ya I noticed it was a little out of date. Like listing a coffee shop in my area that's been closed for several years. The site does seem to be a little American-centric though, so maybe it's more accurate there. Anyway, it's still kinda neat. And they do seem semi accurate. Makes sense that Arbour Creek would score 24.

Got an 82 for my house in Haultain area. But they really need to add distance to Downtown as a factor as many people work there. My rental home in Nutana scored lower, even though I think it is way closer to ammenities and Downtown. No way Haultain is closer to ammenities than a Nutana home which has Broadway and Downtown so close.

Walk score of 51 for me in Wildwood. However the data is a bit out of date. It was listing businesses that have been closed for years, and it even listed a flooring business as a bar?!?

The Yanke Transport facility on the east side is down to make way for Circle Drive. Gives a clear view from Circle right across the river to the QE II power station.

It's amazing how a bridge project like this can completely change one's perspective/orientation of the city.

I totally agree. I live in Westview and it's probably going to be a shorter (or at least about the same) drive to hop on Circle Dr. and get to Stonegate as it will to get to Blairmore. A pretty big change from what it takes to do it now. Granted, I'm not looking forward to the increase in traffic being routed by my house backing Circle of course . Speaking of which, it's interesting to note that our area got a "fancy" dirt berm (which required ripping out all of the trees that were there) because there wasn't money to build a wall...so they said. However, since that time there's been nothing but walls going up everywhere else and now they're starting on the stretch of Circle from Clarence to the clover leaf likely to prepare for the increase in traffic on that part of Circle once the bridge is done. Maybe we'll get walls on top of the berms along the west end of circle eventually (like what's done/being completed between 8th and Taylor), at a cost more then what it would have cost to build them in the first place of course. /end rant

^ Well doesn't it kind of make sense? They would never build a wall that would be as tall as the berm plus a wall, would they? So build the berm, and then when the money is available, build the wall on top.

I was driving down Lorne the other day, and the area behind the WDM looks like a complete war zone (I assume that's where you're talking about, Country). Trees laying everywhere, huge piles of dirt etc. It was definitely a weird sight.

It's interesting along Circle West there are no walls where there are no berms, only a busy truck route with a railway line next to it. Mustn't be too much sound from all that. Strange how that is.

1) So does anyone know what is happening on 51st next to the Extra Foods and the McD's. There was an huge industrial building that came down. What is going in its place?
2) So I heard a Holiday Inn is going in downtown. I am all for more buildings downtown but does Saskatoon need another hotel?
3) I ordered a TranSport Map off the www.times10.ca website and I get it in the mail today. A great map that supports Saskatoon's sustainable transportation routes. This will a handy guide when I get out this weekend to do some running and biking in the city. I think this weekend is going to be +20.
