I heard on the radio that they're getting ready to repave the connector from 10th to the Brookwood split to have some sort of topcoat and grooves to prevent cars from hydroplaning when it gets wet. Work is supposed to be on weekends only for the next three weekends.

I see another poster guessed it might be the prep-work for the connector repaving, but I think it may have something to do with the changes required to put in that off-ramp to the 17th St. bridge.

I don't know what the schedule is for that, but they're making definite progress up close to 17th St. It'll make quite a change on the bridge there.

The Met Center certainly does add some density to that end of Midtown...

Is this going to happen? I thought it was cancelled. They took down all of the signs so I kinda figured it was dead.

While the other half (south of Fourth street) is dominated by Wells Fargo (formerly First Union/Wachovia) banking interest. Each banking giant has no less than five 30- 40- or 50-story buildings. In addition to the uptown towers, each banking giant has one 5,000+ employee center located in the suburbs where back-office jobs are centralized, which freed up prime office space for all those executives relocating to Charlotte due to bank acquistions...

By the way, I'm a native Charlottean, and now I live in Atlanta (a city I love a lot more than Charlotte due to the diversity of this city vs. Charlotte.

Charlotte did lose half of it's banking dominance. Wells Fargo is headquartered in SF. You won't see a shiny new Wells Fargo tower in almost never (the bank doesn't spend money on big towers).
Thanks for this perspective from a Charlotte native. It will be interesting to see how both cities develop over the next few years.

I heard that GDOT decided to postpone this yet again because of the big weekend planned here:

Among other things, HAWKS IN THE PLAYOFFS!!

Coke, CCE could uncap property deal

Coke, CCE could uncap property deal

Quote:
The Coca-Cola Co.’s plans to buy a major stake in its largest bottler could uncap a big real estate deal.

In February, Coke said it will buy the North American operations of Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc. in an acquisition valued at $13 billion.

Some top Atlanta real estate observers believe that could lead to a consolidation of the companies’ real estate. “With real estate costs being the second- or third-highest operating expense for most companies, I guarantee that occupancy cost reduction is part of the acquisition rationale,” said Sam Holmes, a vice chairman with the global commercial real estate brokerage CB Richard Ellis Inc.

A Coke spokeswoman said the company cannot comment on its real estate decisions.

Combined, Coke (NYSE: KO) and CCE (NYSE: CCE) have about 7.1 million square feet of real estate in 20 buildings across metro Atlanta, according to CoStar Inc., which keeps real estate data.

I know this is a long shot, but I wonder if Allen Plaza may still be an option for consolidation.

That logo would look perfect atop 50 Allen Plaza

(And I doubt Delta is moving downtown...)

Meanwhile, a few blocks south:

Has anyone heard about this?

They need to convert Centennial, and Spring too.

Also, can someone please tell me why they are still working on the intersection on Ivan and Marietta (next to the aquarium). It looks like they have been almost done for the past 6 months.

Does anyone know anything about a project named "Sweet Auburn Grand?"

I found this recently posted development on the Central Atlanta Progress website. As far as I know, this is a new item on CAP's site. According to the description, Big Bethel plans to redevelop 180 new low income units (in the Big Bethel Tower, I guessing) and add 20,000 sq. feet of office space and 360 student dorms.

I looked at an old plan for Butler-Auburn and found this plan, which suggests that Big Bethel is planning to redevelop the parking lot on JW Dobbs into a housing structure. Could this be the 360 student dorms? It seems like this plan describes the exact components of Sweet Auburn Grand, from the 20,000 sq. feet of office space to the new residential development.

I couldn't find anything useful online pertinent to this project. Developing that parking lot into dorms seems like a prudent option for GSU, seeing as it is directly across from the Commons.

Well, I put this on another thread but we was in town the other day and they had trucks painting lines all over creation so maybe they are moving the utilities and whatnot. Also it looked like they have started working on that Streets of Buckhead thing again.
