That is an Air Canada Jetz A320 that U2 flew on during their '360 Tour'. It was probably bringing an NHL team up to Edmonton. I saw it in Calgary last week.

I sure hope so, any guesses on the five? I hope YYC does not get one as they already have a EWR slot.

Isn't the EWR slot an AC one? If so I think WJ would be nuts to not add YYC-LGA as one of the slot allocations.

Red Wings or Sharks. Not sure which. The plane was in Calgary as well and the local sports radio show was mentioning it was for one of those teams but I can't recal which.

Nope. LGA is restricted to airports closer than 1500 miles and I'm pretty sure YEG doesn't qualify. Neither does YYC for that matter.

You're right, I forgot about that. But there are a couple of exceptions to the LGA 1500 mile rule:

Quote:
A perimeter rule prohibits incoming and outgoing flights that exceed 1,500 miles (2,400 km)—except on Saturdays, when the ban is lifted, and to Denver, which was grandfathered in
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaGuardia_Airport

Great Circle mapper has the following distances:

YEG-LGA: 2031 sm
YYC-LGA: 2032 sm

WestJet back in 2004 ran a twice daily to LGA from YYZ. Was plagued with delays since LGA is awful.

Might be easier to work with 5, as that may justify a WestJet branded dedicated checkin and gate crew.

No, Westjet is daily to EWR at 10:20 (flight 1680).

Wow. Looks like i missed a lot of interesting news while down in Cancun this past week. Not only do i have to come back to this garbage weather but to some ignorant comments about Tuffy. The guy probably gets more inside information about the world of aviation, let alone just YEG, than most of us posters combined. Not EVERYTHING can be found on the web so let the guy keep us up to date on the airline industry.

Came back last night from Cancun using WestJet this time instead of AC. Both flights had the PTV's although some people's screens did not work on the flight back. It's nice to have live TV in that you might get to catch an NHL game or some local news but why they use the City TV channel for Edmonton i'll never guess. Maybe 10% of the channels didn't work. You actually take for granted the fact that AC's PTV's ony show one or two commercials prior to your program instead of watching shows with commercials at nauseum. The PTV's on AC also seem wider but i'd have to look this up.

The legroom on WS's 738 is better than AC's 763 but the width seems narrower. I'm sure i'm wrong on this. I can't imagine AC's seats being wider than on a new 737-800.

The flight attendants were as usual over the top with the comments especially on the flight down. One of the flight attendants seemed to get mad at people not putting their seats to the upright position on takeoff and for using their earphones. Sometimes i wonder if the "fun" attitude causes people to pay attention less or follow the rules less on takeoffs and landings.

I can understand people liking WestJet but i really get surprised about when they think WestJet's product is superior to Air Canada's product. I actually find it amusing.

And from some of the posts this week, we'll see if WestJet steps up to the plate for YEG internationally via expansion or codesharing. If i have to connect through WestJet's Calgary hub to get to anywhere outside North America then i'll connect through LHR, YUL or YOW and support those flights first for YEG's sake.

LO 044 (or anybody who's flown on WestJet's 738s for that matter), what about seat pitch on WS's 738s - any different from what you get inside their -700s or is it the same?

Why WestJet would never be able to fly YEG-LGA - click on the thumbnail (the original is kind of 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 big) below to see LGA's 1500 mile perimeter in full.

Of all the major cities in Western Canada, only Winnipeg lies within that radius.

Except on Saturday.

Of course a 1x weekly frequency probably insn't going to be very popular.

Plus unless you live in or are visiting the upper east side, EWR is rather more pleasant.

I'm really not sure about the seat pitch. I actually found the seats a bit uncomfortable as my lower back hurt a bit both ways. I never had this problem on other aircraft and i've flown enough but i rarely fly the 737 anymore as AC has none and anytime i fly in Europe it's mostly Airbus, Embraer or Bombardier. The 767 has never given me any back pain but of course the aircraft is older. Perhaps the leather seats have me sliding down in the seat to an uncomfortable position. Seems stupid but i'm just guessing as to why.

FYI, seat 8A (or maybe 9A) is the windowless one on Westjet's 738. I sat in 22F and 4A on the flights.
