this is obviously off topic but here's a question:

does anybody have any experience with flying into or transferring through Mexico City?
i can save a bundle if i fly through MC versus houston (or some other US city)

If he books straight through with the mexican airline from YEG they will get data that might support them bringing back direct service to YEG. It isn't his fault YEG couldn't sustain the direct flight when it was operating.

In theory that can work, but if it's anything like AC......

Didn't YEG and YYC have similar loads but they decided to use one airport and YYC was chosen?

The new terminal will have a tenant who badly wants out of the the north terminal and who has stated they will expand there flights through Edmonton, and that not enough gates is the only thing holding them back at the moment.

I think we all know who that is...

I flew into Mex in the summer....the two terminals are quite far apart if you had to transfer between the two, otherwise its a decently efficient, busy big city airport.

^No as we see they are still expanding their YEG presence but they were noted in a article that I read some time back as wanting to move to the new terminal (atleast the Transborder flights).So expansion they will keep doing.Its just the level of exansion that they could provide once the new terminal opens.

As for transferring in Mexico its really not that hard to do, just make sure you have your passport!!!

Just back from France. Frankfurt Airport was fun as usual. 16 Tower Cranes visible from my window seat.

The Calatrava Air terminal in Lyon looks dated and worn and not alot of services. As well next time some one complains about the god awful long ride into Ed from the airport They have to fly into Lyon. 45 min on average, no major roadways to it just regional single lane roads. Yes there is a train stop but using the train from the centre of town is not easy or convenient. Taxi was 47 euros.

But Loved the city and Public Transport is quite good everywhere else.

There were people on the flight back that were transferring through YYC to YVR.

^^ LAX has been around for awhile, hopefully you know about daily flights to Seattle (SEA), San Francisco (SFO), Denver (DEN), Houston (IAH), Chicago (ORD), Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP), Phoenix (PHX), Las Vegas (LAS) and Palm Springs (PSP) as well

AC/United flies daily to LAX during peak seasons leaving at 07:45 am and gets as low as $88 each way.

Westjet flies it 4x weekly at 09:05 am and routinely costs $105 each way + taxes but have seen it at $89.

^^^im so stupid!^^^ I meant to write that CONTINENTAL AIRLINES flies non stop from here to LAX! ive flown on AC to LA non stop loads of times!

yeah i find AC typically has better prices to LAX than WJ. I never heard that continental flew there though...

and HILMAN, thanks for the info. For a minute I thought all those non-stop routes were continental - obviously until i realized my previous post didnt mention that airline

CO does not fly to YEG from LAX (only IAH), but codeshares the AC flight. Just as CO, UA, BMI, LH all Codeshare teh LHR flight and other star Alliance flights in and out of YEG.

I believe that the "Continental" flight is just a codeshare with AC/United as all "three" flights depart at the same time.

In fact, WS will actually have fewer flights ex-YEG this summer vs 2009, albeit only a small drop (domestic and transborder as down slightly).

The point I was making earlier about the transborder flights is that not only have flights been shifted to regionals, but on an overall basis, there will actually be fewer transborder flights as well. This is mainly due to the Air Canada pullout, reduction from United. This is offset somewhat by Delta increasing MSP and the intro of CO. But if you look at the number of of flights per week, and the number of seats per week, 2010 will be lower than 2009, despite transborder being the only area showing growth recently.

Everyone in Canada right now is seeing regionals added to what were once mainline flights.

*US YEG-PHX has always switched to the CRJ-900 in the summer than back to the A319 come the high season since it started.

*DL has actually showed a small increase in daily seats on YEG-MSP with the intro of the 4 daily CRJ/EMB flights compared to the 2xdaily A319 only service.

*CO YEG-IAH is looking pretty full from what I see when looking at seats available on the single daily and I dare say YEG could see a additional flight if things keep up the way they are.

The numbers for transborder are also showing a recovery starting from when the numbers fell just one year ago.I think YEG will be fine in the long run...

Expansion --just after being announced as the new President and CEO Gregg Saretsky announced plans for the expansion of the company. He will work with other airlines to offer flights to Europe, Asia and South America. "WestJet's new computer reservation system ---will open the door to partnerships with other carriers that will enable the airline to launch transcontinental services," said Gregg. "Certainly, our goal is to see routes with partners that are serving Asia and South America and Europe which will bring traffic to the Canadian shores that WestJet will then pick up." WestJet will continue to pursue negotiating partnerships with international carriers such as Air France-KLM and Singapore Airlines to allow code sharing, which makes connections simpler by allowing single bookings across multiple carriers.
