Classic N.Y.C. construction painting is loaned to World Trade Center project

By The Star-Ledger
March 02, 2010

Quote:
When the World Trade Center is rebuilt, the family of one of America’s most famous poets will commemorate the city’s resurgence with the indefinite loan of an artwork that once dominated the poet’s New Jersey home: a 1943 painting of New York City under construction by Eyvind Earle, a painter and printmaker who was the nephew of William Carlos Williams.

The 13-foot-tall painting, “View Under the Bridge,” hung on a landing of the main staircase in the Williams home in Rutherford until 1995. The newly restored picture is accessible in an inner foyer of the Port Authority engineering building at 225 Park Ave. South in Manhattan until the Trade Center building is completed, at which point it will be transferred to the lobby of the new building.

Start from the lowest point, about 70' below ground level at 13'4".

The columns should be 26' 8" all the way up. That hight works well, not to high so they are easy to transport and erect, and not too short. ( too short would cost more in labor)

That hight also works well when buying the material, 30' lengths are standard. If they were to go 3 floors, 41 feet or 4 floors, 54 feet 4 inches they would waste material, 40', 50' and 60' are standard lengths.

I'm putting $10 in the pool for Floor 26.

It's not 20 actual floors, it's the rough hight equivalent.

Again, they have to let the elevator guys know so they can make the buttons !!!!

The building is 1,368 feet high, right, say I call one floor 10 feet. Then the tower has 136.8 floors.

If I take the actual floor hight 13' 4" then I get 102.6 floors.

The floor number is just that, a number. It has no deep mystical meaning it's just a label, a number on an elevator button.

PS: There are 92 actual floors (not counting mechanical mezzanines) and 5 sub-grade levels. Ya can't see the B1 level in that rendering because the B2 level is double hight in that area.

That's more than four months from now. I hope they've done more than 6 floors by then....

I'm putting in at the low 30's...(optimisticly)

I'm betting that they well get faster as they get higher, smaller floor plate and all that, but they well start out slower.

In other words, padding for marketing purposes. Elevator and floor numbering should follow actual floor count imo.

Sorry for having missed if it's already been said but why is the tower 1373 feet and not 1368?

I know it's splitting hairs just curious
