An acre is 43,560 sq. ft.

The square root of 43,560 is 208'

The Twins were 212' square all the way up (rounded off to the nearest foot), Tower One well be 205' square at the 20th floor. ( current top of steel)

Tower One well be 144' square at the top of the parapet, a square rotated 45 degrees from the base of course.

All measurements are to the outside of the curtain wall or cladding. ( Overall outside dimension)

With construction where it is and with all the plans and renderings, I am really getting excited for this one! When it is done, those of us in NYC or who plan to visit should make a huge push to be amongst the very first to visit the observatory!

I agree that the base seems dwarfed in the image you were referring to, which is very deceptive based on both the distance of the building's base and the size of the surrounding buildings and the site in general. Envision a football stadium next to the tower base in the image and you get a sense of the scale of all the buildings in this area.

You can see the footprints of the old WTC in the image and they aren't any bigger.

If you feel One World Trade Center's Footprint is too small in pictures, you may want to go down to the Tower itself and see just how massive the footprint really is. Not to bring up bad memories but when the South Tower collapsed on 9/11 and the North Tower was left standing it didn't look so massive anymore because it was just One Tower. What I'm trying to say is because there were Two Towers we got used to them and it gave off a massive effect. Freedom Tower is big enough. It looks much bigger in person trust me. This has got to be the greatest project currently going on in Manhattan right now not only because it will be the tallest, but it will change our skyline for the best.

This is something you need to experience for yourself if you ever get the opportunity to do so. Judging by some of the pictures there are different perspectives that are given off which could in turn make the base seem on the smaller side in some cases. Inaccurate in reality, as the base is quite large and very much mirrors the base area of the former towers.

The Freedom Tower is smaller, relatively speaking, than a lot of New York office buildings because the floorplates are smaller (obviously). The floorspace is pushed "up" rather than "out" for obvious reasons. But it is more massive and higher than the base of a typical NY tower. Compare that photo to renderings, and you can see why it would appear "small".

Originally, the PAC was planned as a part of Freedom Tower's base, which would have made it larger, but that later evolved into a separate entity.

Its amazing how fat the World Financial Center towers look in the photo compared to 7 WTC, 1 WTC and even the new Goldman Sachs tower. Interesting angle for sure!

Even though I realize the base of the FT is every bit as huge as that of the old Twins, so far it just doesn't seem as massive. Maybe that will change once the whole tower is standing.

Tall height = smaller floor plates. We’re not used to seeing that in this day of age (in the Western World), so naturally what we’re seeing can be deemed ‘out of the norm’. This one isn’t stopping at 700’. One can even say that this is the reason why office buildings aren’t regularly built to these heights anymore. This case is different, and perhaps the last opportunity to see this kind of construction in an American city.

Yeah! I noticed how skinny the tower is gonna be compared to rest of the skyscrapers surrounding it! Its base actually isn't very large! This tower is gonna looks freakin tall!
