Wait until Feb 28th. So far things are ok, but the "young adult" partiers are out in full force. We could be known as the city that can't handle a party, the kid that has gotten drunk, puked and passed out before 10pm on New Year's Eve.

I was on Granville St. watching the final few skeleton runs on Friday night, when Canada won gold. I was watching a TV through a window at a pizza place. It was a tense few runs, and a great win. Guess what, NOBODY was paying attention. It was all about how much beer you can drink, and isn't it cool that I put some rum in my slurpee cup, etc. Same crowd that almost ruins the fireworks every year.

I don't want to say it's a bunch of spoiled kids from the suburbs, but...

I don't want to say it's a bunch of spoiled kids from the suburbs, but...

And that's partly the reason we're "no fun" city, because our younger residents can't seem to handle fun.

The flip side of the problem is that successive city councils seemed to think "fun" was defined by cramming a mass of drinking establishments in one small area.

There was some dumbass on the SkyTrain this morning drinking beer and talking on his phone about drug deals.. I was going to push the silent alert button and then there happened to be a police officer at Commercial-Broadway who I flagged down.

Dunno, I didn't get off the train.. the cop took him off the train and the guy opened up his backpack, which they started discussing by the time the train pulled away. He said on his phone that he was holding weed for some guy as well..

(disclosure: i have no problem with booze or weed, but there is a time and place for everything. the skytrain at 1pm sunday afternoon when the world is watching is not the time nor the place for either.)

The biggest problem with booze is how it changes people. Some people get happier, but some also get meaner. It is the ones that turn mean that are the problem.

The other problem is alot of people don't know when to cut themselves out. They also don't know when to walk away from a crowd. In some ways to many people are like sheep who follow the herd. With no idea on what they want to do.

Kinda funny i was in line to get a ticket for skytrain to go back home at about 2:00 early sunday morning, and then some transit people came up to us and said not to worry about it and just get on.

Thats funny that happend to me to, coming back from vancouver 3 people thought it would be nice to pull out a fat dubi and hot box the skytrain that was full. The smoked it for about two seconds before the guy next to me let into them, I thought he was going to punch them out. I was talking with him after and he said that he himself smoked pot but he wasn't going to let them do it on a train with kids on board. By the way i wonder what all the tourist think of vancouver when they see stuff like this?

Unless it's 35C outside and I don't feel like being packed in a sauna, then I'll wait for a MKII if I have time. Otherwise my time is too precious to care if I get on an older train or newer train.

Your first sentence is my point. We are a no fun city mostly because we've shown we can't handle it. I'd hardly call the police and the city council's reaction "paranoid", but rather prudent, or at least an attempt to deal with the problem.

The Granville St. zone, I'm not sure if that's worse or better than the alternative.

There is a time and place for everything. And it would seem that certain people just can't figure out the time and place to do certain things.

I'd would really like to know what those people are thinking when they figure it would be cool to do something has you stated. What exactly is going through their heads.

traffic was busier today on the traffic report - perhaps people commuted last week and saw how easy it was and said screw transit I can drive its not bad at all - and wham volume is bad

During Stampede week it wasn't uncommon to see people finishing their drinks from the last place (conveniently transferred to plastic cups as they were leaving) while waiting to get into the next place.

Vancouver's bar scene is similar, though not to the same degree.

Canada Line is running 20 trains during the Olympics.

It seems like the Canada Line frequency is about every 2.5 minutes according to the next train board... sounds about right if they are running all 20 trains.

This is the frequency we need at all times... The BC gov't needs to order 4 spare Rotem trains at the same time that they order rolling stock for the Evergreen Line.
