why would they do that? go back to 16 trains when they have waits at all of the main stations? what are they trying to accomplish here?
Shameful. We should never allow a P3 again on these kind of projects.

Public-private partnerships = P3

where the government and private sector come together to create public infastructure such as tranist, hospitals, bridge, public schools etc...

ie the province needs a hospital so it gets a private company to build it and operate it with some provincial operating funds

ProTrans doesn't decide how many trains to run, Translink makes that decision, isn't that the case?

Do you have some info to share about ProTrans being allowed to make decisions about train numbers?

IMO whenever we see less than 20 trains running and have lineups, Translink is to blame.

But Translink dictates the service levels on a day-to-day basis. ProTrans just does as they are told and gets a cut of fares for doing it. Why are we giving Translink a free pass on this?

Haven't seen this reported anywhere yet. Long line ups at Aberdeen Station earlier this afternoon when I walked by at around 3:30. There must have been upwards of about 200 people waiting. Not to mention Salvation Army people with hot chocolate were also there to keep people warm.

I wonder how long it took to clear the line when trains leave full from Brighouse...

I caught the train at Aberdeen Station around 2:00 and there was no line up what so ever, there were lot of people on the train but it wasn't full until it got to 49th.

Were there any similar lineups at any E/M-Line stations as there were for the C-Line ones?

Waiting under Stadium Station in the long security lineup for the Canada Hockey game tonight, the Expo trains were coming every 90 seconds or so in both directions. Packed in both directions. Very impressive to watch. Some 6-car trains but most 4-car. Didn't see any significant backlog at the station before or after the game. A lot of people didn't go home immediately afterward, so there wasn't the same crush as after a Canucks game. (The game ended around 7:30 p.m.).

(Edit) CTV news on TV just reported that today Translink finally achieved the goal of 30% reduction in cars downtown, and had 150,000 on the Canada Line, and over 12,000 pedestrians walk into downtown over the bridges.

I drove to the game at GM Place since I have parking arranged in a condo nearby, and I have to say, it was the easiest drive I can ever remember. No traffic issues in Chinatown at all.

Took a nightbus N15 at 3am and it was 100% full with people standing in the stairwells...lots were complaining about why the Canada Line is closed so early. Saw at least 5 taxis dropping off people at Olympic Village. I couldn't get a taxi walking over 15 mins around the busiest parts of town, they were all full.

Canada Line was packed in both Directions around downtown at midnight. But there were no waits at any station I went through. Everything seemed to be running just within capacity. I was amazed at the number of people getting off at every station, even King Ed had a good 40 people get off.

Olympic Streetcar was also super busy in both directions with people standing end to end. But there were no waits when I went to the Island at 6:30 and no waits coming back at 10pm, but almost 90% full.

Around 7:30pm last night I was heading towards Yaletown station. And the lineup to get out of the station was massive. People were lined up across the entire width of the first stairwell when you go down.

There was also a lineup to buy tickets. Thankfully I have a pass so I just walked down to the platform and right onto the train litterly it was waiting and the doors were about the close.

Olympics or no Olympics, all of this demonstrates clearly that Translink needs to buy some more trains for the Canada Line and increase train frequencies - FAST ! ! !

I'll disagree, it shows that the line can handle ~200,000 daily riders with the current trains, we won't reach that outside of something like the Olympics for a long long time.

^ I agree. As long as they increase frequency with the existing fleet, we should be fine for a little while.
