Sven Kramer of the Netherlands has set an Olympic Record and won Gold on the Oval in the Men's 5000m. Wasn't this course supposed to be slow and no OR's set ?

South Korea wins silver, a HUGE Winter Olympic moment for that Country. Tons of Dutch fans in the crowd.

Anyways, the athletes probably need this because the kitchens don't have any appliances. Like dishwashers.

The athletes get all their meals in the cafeteria. The kitchens are boarded up so they can't be used/damaged.

I really hate how our Games are starting with such a somber and negative note...I just hope it doesn't get any worst than this.

The American networks nightly news all led with stories about the soggy weather. This isn't doing any good for Whistler rep as a great winter ski destination.

I am hording cash to buy more real estate. After these games show that David Duchovny was right and real estate market collapses under the combined weight of rain and rising interest rates it will be time to buy again.

This February weather is not doing Vancouver any favors. In retrospective, they should have held Olympics in the second part of March when you stand some chance of getting sun once in a while.

13 - 0 at the end of the second period for the women's hockey game Canada vs Slovakia. The Slovakian goalie has mukmuk on her helmet I'm told and she is very cute. I feel bad for her as most of the goals weren't her fault but the anemic defense in front of her.

CBC ran a show last week about airport security that was a re-cap & update of a show they did in 2005.

One segment in 2005 showed a security expert observing the code for the 5-button door handles as staff were opening the secured access doors. He realised the same code was used for every gate and ramp that attaches to the plane. The same code was still in use this year at that airport (5 years later).

He also mentioned that passenger baggage may be x-rayed before loaded onto a plane, but courier & postoffice packages aren't; Do you think Al Qaeda has already figured out they just need to send their bombs by Purolator or FedEx?

Meanwhile we still have to x-ray our shoes & throw away water when going through security.

A whole bunch of Olympic Records in speed skating today. Both short track and long track.

Often broken multiple times in the same session Like what just happened in Ladies 3000m short track, Korea had the OR, then immediately after China.

It's snowing in Whistler on the luge track. Very picturesque~! Holy crap the American just smashed the lip, he's lucky it was there. Just barely "averted disaster".

I heard that since the builders knew that the kitchens weren't needed for the athletes, they were left unfinished (no cabinets, no appliances, nothing installed other than pipes and wires in the walls) and covered up with a false wall. Apparently just the essential finishes were done to bring the units to a 'nice university dorm' level, knowing that the condos would be returned from VANOC needing repairs and then their proper finishes - hardwood floors, full kitchens, repainting to the owner's desired colours, building the owners custom finishes, &tc.
