^ Ironwood tower, obviously.

I wonder if they're just renewing their DP or if they plan on starting the job back up shortly. From my understanding, Ironwood still plans to move on the project, and it is bascially 'shovel ready'

Would be nice to see the first Albertan post-recession office tower built in Edmonton

(regardless of the screwy design!)

I was being sarcastic, I don't necessarily want this tower to be built

^ yes the dirt parking lot and homeless urinal in that sad little stand of trees is so much better

I don't much care for the tower design, but lets not lament the loss of a parking lot. There are many, many more parking lots available for redevelopment.

I personally don't think the Ironwood tower looks that awfull, no it isn't the sleekest but I'd take it over another Century/Grand Central Manor/River Vista/Legacy/Railtown on the Park/etc.

Those are all residential and this is strictly office space...apples to marmalade.

^it could be ok or kinda meh... very hard to tell from the rendering. I still think the podium is too... YMCA... and the tower too 40 storey squished from the top but it really would be nice to have that corner with buildings on all four.

^If the tower materials have some sort of metallic look, I think it could look quite cool.

The grey sections I'm sure will be curtain wall with metal spandrel. The red part is a bit of a wild card... I think it would actually look neat if it was brick up each side, but I'm betting color coded metal spandrel as well.

EDMONTON — Canadian Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX: REF.UN) has acquired a 50-per-cent stake in a group of retail properties forming part of South Edmonton Common for $39.2 million, the Toronto-based property firm announced Wednesday.

CREIT assumes a $5.7-million first mortgage, carrying an interest rate of 5.87 per cent and a term to maturity of 8.2 years, with the balance paid from cash on hand.

i'm not sure if that's the last image for this project or one of the earlier ones that was put out. it was "refined" more than once on it's more than one visit to edc. although it probably didn't change drastically, i think there were changes to the podium and main lobby entry location as well as some fine tuning of some of the tower details. i couldn't find anything on either hip's site or ironwood's that would confirm this as being either early or late in the process. i seem to recall 240glt mentioning tender documents being available for some of the project so he might be able to clarify...

^^ I'm reasonably certain that this is the lastest of the renderings we've seen. I've seen the M & E's for this project, but they haven't been put out to tender yet, although I understand there is some sort of an agreement in place between the developer and Clark Builders. That's all heresay of course.

The tender documents I was talking about was for our portion of the Div. 15 work for Epcor tower. It doesn't look like we'll be doing the work though, I doubt the successful bidder will be able to match the quality of our proposed installation, but they were able to beat our price

although i'm sorry to hear you might not be getting the work, the invitation list would have been prequalified (glad to hear you were on it and your being on it should say something). we do have a pretty good group of consultants and quality control procedures in place (not the least of which is relying on construction management rather than fixed pricing so there is no "disincentive" to deliver quality from the perspective of a gc's bottom line). i know it hurts to lose work that you want but quality is as important as price. assuming that quality is going to be provided however, price by necessity will become the final deciding factor once that quality has been assured. and for what it's worth, there have been some contracts awarded at more than the lowest price/option put forward to ensure minimum acceptable quality standards would be met and not compromised (sometimes with the low tender provider, sometimes not). the project is being developed for our own portfolio so long term quality and performance in many areas is more important than just the initial cost.
