Ken - Any news on when the other 2/3s or 3/4 might get built? Rough time lines? Will the development of the arena district help? Maybe more interest in putting up a hotel/condos there? Or will the arena take away some of the buzz and potential of Stationlands? Seems that the arena might want a hotel/condos/office towers as well...

Our northern edge of the CBD is progressing north!

i can't give you "hard news" or firm timelines on when the other 2/3 or 3/4 might get built (other than as quickly as possible) but i can tell you we decided to purchase our man and material hoists instead of just renting them...

the arena will help downtown regardless of where it gets built downtown (although my own definition of that is that if you can't walk to it and back from the westin or sutton place or the hotel macdonald in the middle of january, it's not really downtown). and anything that's good for downtown will be good for station lands just as station lands will be good for the rest of downtown and for the arena district whenever/wherever it does happen.

there is already hotel and condo interest in station lands. an arena district would support that interest, not detract from it. the type and style of what would be provided in the arena district and what we envisage for station lands would be complementary and not directly competitive with each of them providing critical mass for the other.

you're welcome although the photos aren't actually mine (even though i posted them) in the sense that i didn't take them. they're project photos and i did edit the original post to credit the source we purchased them from.

City to spend $100,000 on solar pilot project
Push on to get more atop Edmonton homes

Gordon Kent
Edmonton Journal

Saturday, December 19, 2009

The city is planning a $100,000 pilot program next year to look at the potential for increasing the number of solar panels on Edmonton homes.

While details are still being worked out, the project will probably focus on potential demand, community capacity and technology for panels that create heat or electricity, says Mark Brostrom, director of environmental policy and strategic planning...

We are starting to see views of Edmonton's downtown we have never seen before. I like the canyon effect I'm seeing along 101 St.

^ Now if only those two pieces of land just south of Epcor Tower were to be developed...not to mention the other two pieces of land across the street...101 St. would actually be a pretty sweet canyon.

FYI re: mayfair village:

They mention only ~260 apartments which means phase 1 only it seems for now (not mayfair site).

From what I remember of the Journal article on the project from a few months ago, the intent was to start the south building ASAP, with the north building proceeding shortly thereafter.

thankfully...

but how do you go from developing a beautifully sketched up 20+ storey $150,000,000-200,000,000 tower with 'one of Edmonton's top law firms' to bye bye?

I've heard that the Mayfair hotel will be torn down and will become the staging area for the south building.
