My walk to work today was more pleasant than my walk to work yesterday. Good on the 35% of people who had already swept/shovelled/plowed their walks this morning. Special sad face for the General Hospital which hadn't been touched.

Am I reading this correctly; you're HAPPY about having a winter storm? To that I say: "you crazy!"

The city looks beautiful outside my office window. Keep this snow coming. It would be nice to pull out the snowmobiles before christmas.

It is Canada in December... from now till Feb winter is expected and now often enough embraced. I still cannot understand this country and how many people complain about cold and winter. Embrace it, explore in it, and toboggan every chance you can. Personally I love winter (not driving but i dont drive much) and everything you can do in it. I laugh at how many people hibernate and just complain rather than putting some skates on, grabbing a sled, snow shoes, skiing, understanding the beauty of a cup of joe and a walk in fresh white stuff.

New restaurant in Art Gallery
By Liane Faulder Fri, Dec 4 2009 COMMENTS(0) Eat My Words
Filed under: Art Gallery of Alberta
Watch this space in the days to come for more details on the chi-chi restaurant planned for the new Art Gallery of Alberta. Compass Group Canada, which runs C5 (the spare, bright and beautiful box for ladies who lunch in the re-designed Royal Ontario Museum), is running the kitchen at the AGA. As with ROM, which has its own high-profile chef, there will be a local light designing the menu and overseeing the operation at the AGA. That person has been selected, but no announcement has yet been made.

Sarah Hoyles, media relations and communications coordinator for the AGA, will neither confirm nor deny the restaurant is called Zinc.

I guess, but not if you want to take pictures...and risk getting your camera messed up from the snow melting on or in camera and dirtying up the lens.

But, in my opinion, there is much better weather than blowing snow, but I can tell you're a winter person so whatever.

Keep your batteries warm, keep an eye on condensation and you'll be fine. I carry a 12" square microfibre cloth to wipe everything down if condensation occurs, but there's no real reason to avoid using your camera all winter.

If you're concerned about falling snow, throw your camera/lens inside a giant freezerbag. Cut a hole a little smaller than your lens and streeeeeetch it over the end and you'll seal it up nice. Viola, errr voila!

Even moving up to a higher-end body doesn't universally help. You may end up with a weathertight, gasketed block of metal for a camera, but man oh man does it leech the heat from your fingers in the winter.

The fact that grumpy people hate the snow and kids and pets love it is a good indication to me that snow is good.

I really like Edmonton's climate.

I love the snow.
I hate the -30 weather that we get. But I know it's coming so there's not much I can do about it. I usually don't do much on those -30 days anyways. Stay in, stay warm and enjoy movies or reading or whatever.

This comment just reminded me of something... I was having a conversation the other day with some friends (all in their 20's) who are Winnipeggers, born and raised. Based on that last fact, I was quite surprised to hear them all vehemently complaining about the winter weather (in a fashion that I say would rival some of the worst 'winter grumblers' I've met in Edmonton).

But that's when it dawned on me... if Winnipeg was located next to a mountain, I bet half the population that currently complains about the wind and snow would likely not do so anymore. Then again, snowmobiling in the Canadian Shield is a lot of fun too!

^ I don't think I could bear the winter if I did not have mountains to play on. I enjoy the snow for many reasons.. but sliding down a hill at 40mph is my personal catalyst.

How dare you bring common sense to a bunch of people that do nothing but — & complain about living in a great city/country. The saying "if you don't like it get the hell out" never gets old. Perhaps cambodia, or sri lanka, or ethiopia would suit some people better.

I concur. Winnipeg actually tried to rectify the situation when they built their floodway. They decided to pile the dirt up a little higher at one location northeast of the city, built a chairlift and T-bar, and called it a ski-hill.

...Let's just say it makes a hill like Snow Valley seem like a resort by comparison.

I think your brain is frozen. You obviously do not drive much or you would realize that this is —.

Give me a warm climate anyday.

Pretty sad state of affairs when thinking positive, and making the best of your environment and enjoying the fact that you live in a winter city is '—'. I'm with Cold, sitting inside all winter acting like life no longer exists is —....
