There is a definite transition particularly to the south of the business core. Neighbourhoods like the Beltline, Mission, Lower Mount Royal, Bankview all have nice medium to high density fabric. North of downtown there is a decent mix of densities in neighbourhoods like Sunnyside and Bridgeland, but it is also mixed with single family houses. You just don't often see this 5-20 storey residential fabric in skyline shots, but it does exist. Of course in Calgary this transition is a matter of a km or two; nonetheless substantial for a city of its population and is growing and expanding.
