It's not normal for a city of that size, but seems to be normal for a city of that age.

^^those are some of the more interesting shots of Edmonton to date... great angle, great fog, nice lighting.

You can almost see my house on the right along 99 avenue.

Well, it really actually is extensive. Edmonton has a really large core

There is a definite transition particularly to the south of the business core. Neighbourhoods like the Beltline, Mission, Lower Mount Royal, Bankview all have nice medium to high density fabric. North of downtown there is a decent mix of densities in neighbourhoods like Sunnyside and Bridgeland, but it is also mixed with single family houses. You just don't often see this 5-20 storey residential fabric in skyline shots, but it does exist. Of course in Calgary this transition is a matter of a km or two; nonetheless substantial for a city of its population and is growing and expanding.

Yes and no. Our core is not large but our downtown is actually quite extensive.

Edmonton is shortchanged because of the height restrictions, because of the lack of amazing architecture, and because it is Edmonton and people hate this shit town.
