Based on renders alone, I don't mind Quest, Tango, and the one on 107th Street...they look pretty decent. The others use like others said an unattractive amount of white.

There's a Jasper Avenue New Vision open house tomorrow night (Thursday November 12) at the Enterprise Square from 5-7pm and 7-9pm (2 Presentation and discussion sessions)

Anyone going?

Lots of eye candy.

Sad to see you go, Bulliver. Really appreciated the photos you contributed, and the construction updates you provided. Best of luck wherever you're going, and hopefully we'll see you back again.

Hope to see more photos pop up on your flickr!

I'm gonna try and make it, since I work a couple of blocks away and get off in time. I always have my camera with me, so I'll do my best. I hope they have the big foamy model city set up!

Yep, revised foam model will be there. Also a couple of large digital renderings of what the street could look like with the new streetscape and buildings. Also a block by block analysis with proposed built form changes as an demonstration of about 6 blocks on the north side of Jasper. Lots of stuff to look at. Can't post until after the open house though. I'm sure it'll be in the paper too.

Are you thinking the late or early presentation? I'd be interested in heading down there....

Also, thanks Kevin and oiler-dude. I have several shots of etown 'banked'. You'll still be seeing a few things from me over the winter, just no new stuff

^ I have a few photos on my iphone of the same building I was meaning to post - at first I wasn't sure of the building, but seeing it finished and lit up at night, I have to say it's really growing on me. They did a good job!

I have been in Edmonton due to work a lot lately. One thing that I noticed is the amount of Telephone and Electricity wires above ground in your city. I think these make certain streets look plan ugly. If they were placed underground on main routes it would make Edmonton feel much more clean. Is there a movement to do this? Why is there so many above ground and with wood poles to begin with?

Because the neighbourhoods are older. They stopped doing it so often sometime around the 60's and 70's. Most cities have this issue.

I have found Edmonton has done far more to improve this than a lot of other cities I've been to (except Calgary). Many residents are encouraged if they change/upgrade their electrical service to trench as much of it as possible, and move the main panel/stack into their garage, which would minimize costs of burying the lines in back alleys later on.

In industrial areas, it doesn't make as much sense to do this, because it would require so many businesses to do service changes (and with 3-phase 200+ amp incoming services, that isn't a piece of cake, especially if they have to run underneath an already paved driveway, etc.)

The older the city, the more overhead lines you will come across. When I go to Winnipeg, I notice even more overhead lines than I ever see in Edmonton. It all depends what time period the city experienced its growth.

I really don't mind overhead lines...I feel like they add an interesting texture to the streetscape. Here in Toronto overhead lines abound, and I don't think it would be the same without them.

Anyway, I believe the city started taking down the old trolley lines last year, starting with 112 ave...the copper in the wires were apparently going to fetch a good amount too, but I can't recall just how much

The contrast between what the section of 118th between 82 & 90 streets looked like before with overhead wires and trolley lines vs. what it looks like now with buried service and no trolley lines & some classy lighting is remarkable. That alone makes it look much cleaner and more open.

My power service comes from a pole in the back alley. I don't have a problem with that.. our street lights in front have buried service, which is what they're trying to do in most older neighborhoods now.

I suppose the only place where I have a real problem with the overhead wires is on 104th Ave between 119th and 124th Street, especially around 120th Street. I hate having to use the westbound bus stop at that intersection because the poles obstruct the view of the street and the spotting of approaching buses. I'm certain the seniors at senior's place just south of it have similar beefs with that stop.
