I believe yesterday was the first day for Continental's flight to Houston. Hopefully the route is a success.

Mexicana is rumored to be dropping both YEG and YYC over the next few months.With YEG going first and YYC in the spring.I will see what I can find out from MX folks here in MMUN.

I am really not that surprised by the Mexicana (future) anouncement. In terms of sun destinations, most people will fly non-stop with Air Canada, Air Transat and WestJet. Then you can fly to South America via Houston or Los Angeles. That leaves the Mexican ex-pats to fill the planes and i'm really not sure how big the Mexican population is in Edmonton relative to a place like Toronto. There's just too much competition to what Mexicana is trying to accomplish. Now i don't know how competitive Mexicana is in pricing and service but obviously things aren't working.

This was posted by flyeiaPR on the connect2edmonton forum. I believe this person works for EIA and used to have a different name on the forum. He/she post once in a while especially when there are major announcements one way or another.

Mexicana could not support both cities so they will do what every other carrier does in Alberta - go through Calgary and funnel passengers from Edmonton.

H1N1 and Visa problems may have been factors but they are not the major reason.

Mexicana was not serving each city daily. They were alternating flights with YYC getting 4x weekly and YEG getting 3x weekly flights.

So my guess is that they will now go daily out of YYC

And they are not coming back to YEG in the near future.

The word they are using is suspended, and Javier from MX also said YYC will be either dropped by spring or greatly reduced until the market improves.

I have also spoke to AeroMexico who will continue to serve Cancun from YEG.We just might have a replacement as I am pushing the case with lower frequencies.Show your support and e mail them.

Who will they be operating for this winter? They used to charter for Sunwing to CUN but Sunwing is using their own metal 2x per week this winter according to their website.

John,or whatever they will continue to serve YEG using both Sunwing 737"800 and AM 737-800 for this winter.Slightly up from the AM 737-700 from last year.But u know it all know dont you u inaccurate person who only creeps the YEG page for bad news.Stick to bloating about YYC you tool.

Tuffyy If you are referring to me you are mistaken. I am not a fan of YYC and am probably the most excited when YEG gets a new route and most disappointed when they lose one.

I am not a airline professional by no means and always respect your input as one of the most reliable posters on this site but I am being a realist here and the reality is YEG continues to ride this rollercoaster of getting routes with much fanfare and losing them with much disappointment.

And it does not help how we are setup provincially with the big elephant to the south YYC casting a wide shadow.

Anyway, was a simple question. If you look at Sunwing's website... both flights to CUN and the 1/wk to PVR are all showing WG metal. Same for YYC, all Sunwing flights appear to be operating by Sunwing metal this winter. Perhaps AM will be operating for another tour company this year. If that is "creeping" for bad news... ok then.
