While you're busy bashing the people in the city you're supposedly so "passionate" about, just remember that ideas like eugenics were first made fashionable in places like Paris, Berlin, and Vienna by people whose self-esteems were grouned on the belief that they were progressive and smarter than everyone else.

^ Hardly see how that makes them 'good' ideas, and hardly see how that makes them acceptable for Edmontonians or anyone else to have.

I'm not following you here. Alberta doesn't have the market cornered on ignorance and reprehensible ideas by a long shot (heck, the eugenics thread we're discussing was started based upon an article from New Zealand.)

I was just lamenting that C2E has become the flame to the local variety of these particular moths.

Actually, you suggested these were ideas particularly prevelent in Edmonton/Canada... your words, not mine.

As for you Bulliver I didn't say they were good ideas. You're a brilliant photographer but your reading skills appear to need some work...

I assume cE2 or whatever is a discussion thread of some political nature, and to be honest I don't care about political discussion threads for that very reason. Every nut job in the world uses them to vent. But to suggest that Edmonton/Alberta is lacking morally or intellectually is just silly. I've spent a good deal of time in Europe, the USA, S America, etc and people have crazy ideas everywhere, even the educated "progressive" ones.

Correct; Investment division and Edmonton Corporate Financial Services division will be housed there.

And 51st Avenue, not 34th, but whatever.

^ Correct, 51 Ave., sorry. The avenues south of 76th all look the same to me. =P

I'm curious as to what the plan is for the Edmonton Mid-Office (currently located in the ATB building on Calgary Trail and 81 Ave.) then... I'll have to ask my "insider."

I'm sure they're crammed there, but no plans that I'm aware of yet. It will depend on what is decided with the corporate offices in Edmonton for after the ATB Place lease is up.

Second from the left. Simple, yet very unique. Obviously it would need to be altered for cost and such. In retrospect any tower similar to those designs would, in my opinion, be a very welcome addition to Edmontons' overall skyline and core.
i'm sure they will be very well executed as is 7 world trade centre which i had the opportunity of taking a full building tour of last year but in real life they're actually quite boring to look at (as opposed to the views looking out which are nothing short of spectacular) and their interaction with the adjacent streets in virtually non-existent (even lobbies are completely off-limits to other than tenants or signed in/signed for visitiors).

Thanks! I can read fine. I never said you said they were good ideas, you seem to be inferring that. I said a bad idea is a bad idea no matter where it originates

Evidently prevalence equates to cornering the market as well. Clearly we're both mentally challenged Bulliver. At least we found out C2E doesn't have the market cornered on gems though!

The new new 4 building project at 94 street and 51 Avenue was originally started by Guild Developments before it went into receivership. It was purchased from the bank three months ago by ELM developments out of Toronto. They have been busy fixing up the problems left by the original construction team - Guild was acting as their own construction management company on that one. ELM has actually hired the original design team and engineers for the project to assist them with the completion. They hope to have everything wrapped up on all 4 buildings by March or April next year. After that they have another two building commercial project planned for the neighbouring lot on the west side. So that stretch of 51 ave will start to look a bit less industrial over the next few years.

What comment made by Chmillz got you so mad bulliver? I'm a sucker for drama

Edit: read it. What a tool. It sickens me to think there are people out there that think this way.

For fun, the tower that RAND() built:

Requiring 12 different types of glazing and spandrels, which is fewer than what's on the TD tower. (and reminding me to update the EPCOR and CC models)

Thanks for the wonderful graphics! I especially enjoy the inclusion of the Epcor building. Are those little nubs the reason that this will be Edmonton's new tallest? It's so interesting, I think, that, in other centres, the title of tallest building would be determined by more than nubs. Damned airport!

As for the graphics themselves, I think that some things in Montreal work because they're there, but wouldn't work elsewhere (although both Edmonton and Montreal both represent brutalism fairly well). Perhaps my quandry is thus: I would love to see Montreal's proposed tower built in Edmonton, but not at the expense of our beautiful TD building. The conversion in the picture results in a certain aesthetic blandness (and bleakness), I think, due to the relatively small number of towers in the graphic overall (i.e. the lack of a counterpoint, of balance).

Edmonton is due for fewer camouflaged buildings, winter be damned!

I'll agree the urban camo pattern looks kindof strange...but I think it's actually because of all the buildings, rather than because there's too few. 101st is the densest part of our downtown, and there's barely any other buildings in the Montreal render.

Anyway, a ghetto winter shot (although the people and trees are so tiny):

Councillor urges action on downtown roadway makeover

By FRANK LANDRY - Edmonton Sun

Last Updated: 30th October 2009, 3:16am

An inner-city councillor is calling for action on a $30-million plan to spruce up a rundown stretch of downtown roadway.

"The great danger is we merrily do the plans, we get everybody excited about them and then they gather dust," said Ward 4 Coun. Ben Henderson.

"It's a really bad habit we have, and we have to get out of the habit.

"We actually have to start doing some of this stuff, and not just planning to do it."

The city has long eyed a complete reconstruction of 105 Avenue between 97 Street and 119 Street.

It would include road rehabilitation, streetscaping, landscaping and upgrades to the underground power and water lines.

The estimated cost, however, is $30 million -- too rich for the cash-strapped city.

A council report released yesterday says no work is planned along the avenue within the next five years.

But Kathy Barnhart, manager of neighbourhood and community development, said the timeline could be pushed up if there is enough demand.

"If, when we're working with communities along that stretch, this is a priority for them, and it would help them to achieve the revitalization in that area, we might be able to put some dollars to it sooner," she said.

The area includes the neighbourhoods of Central McDougall and Queen Mary Park.

Henderson said talk of a downtown arena in the area could kick-start the revitalization.

He said he's optimistic some of the roadwork could be done "in the next year or two" as work begins building the NAIT LRT line through the area.

This isn't the only streetscaping scheme the city is eying.

The city wants to spend $39 million sprucing up Jasper Avenue between 97 Street and 111 Street. It would include sidewalk improvements as well as new lighting, trees and benches.

The goal would be "recapturing Jasper Avenue's role as Edmonton's premier downtown street," officials said earlier.

While the estimated price tag for that project is about $39 million, the actual cost could vary by as much as 40%, according to officials.

^^ 30M seems a bargain to improve 22 blocks of 105 Ave, if indeed that buys what the plans represented. That's less than 1 AHD interchange isn't it?
