Something like that would totally jump start Downtown.
Downtown has a bar/club district that's fairly busy in the Castleberry Hill neighborhood.

It also doesn't matter how many people can walk to a MARTA station. Nobody is going to use MARTA to go out at night because it stops running long before the clubs close.
I must not be in their demographic, because I've never heard of them or heard of anyone going to them.

But thanks for pointing that out and that's a great point about MARTA.

College Football Hall of Fame Renderings

I was looking through image shack this morning, and I found these. I also tracked them down and found them on an architect's webpage. They look pretty cool. I'm not sure if this is a final design or not, but it's the only thing I could find. Maybe it was a proposal from the last time Atlanta went after it, which I think was about a year ago.

Hmm, if that's the corner of Andrew Young Int'l and Centennial ... I could have sworn thats where the Civil Rights museum was going to go.

I wish Atlanta would take a more high-brow approach to a museum district, a la what Dallas is doing. Where are Atlanta's philanthropic institutions? How is it that the Big D can be building these fantastic new arts facilities and Atlanta still can't get a new symphony hall built?

Re: College HOF renderings

These are plainly marked concept drawings on the site so let's not out run our blocking here. Plus, the job has not been bidded out yet, for either the developer or the architect.

The petro industry in Texas funds a huge amount of philanthropic buildings. Just compare Houston or Dallas with Atlanta.

The Civil Rights Museum is going at the corner of Ivan Allen and Centennial Park Dr.

Well, Atlanta already has Woodruff Arts Center...with the High Museum, Symphony Hall, and Alliance Theater all in one place. It's the largest arts campus in the Southeast, and pretty impressive in my book.

As far as a symphony hall, it takes a good bit of money to build such things and the economy has had a lot to do with the delay in building one. There was a fund with about half of the $300 million to build the Calatrava-designed symphony hall, but things have changed since then and I believe they are looking at new designs - hopefully less expensive but equally impressive ones. From what I understand it will be a part of Woodruff Arts Center as well.

Just saw on the news that a Buckhead lawyer is planning a Pirate museum to be called Pirate World across from the Georgia Aquarium on Ivan Allen. He purchased the old Good Samaritan center and apparently has about 2 million dollars worth of recovered treasure he wants to put on display, along with a walk through replica of a portion of a ship. I guess being across from an aquarium is pretty fitting for a pirate museum.

Ha that'd be awesome. I'd totally go to a pirate museum

They should build a ninja museum across from it tho...

pirates and the DZCFKWCRDAWTLTDOSGT are both overdue and sorely needed. given that COP's museum district is running short on land fronting the park, they better take advantage of the down economy and break ground soon.

by the way, (and this is serious) there's a battle brewing over a still available piece of land between walton street and nasau street......an investment group from los angeles is negotiating to buy that land for what is expected to be a modern rendition of pop culture and the impact that it's had on the US since the 1980's.

leading the fundraising campaign is paris hilton and her BFF meghan mccain. yesterday, both hilton and mccain attended a press conference at the museum for patriotism where they got into a brief hair pulling tussle about who's family has had a greater impact on the "nited states", paris conceded that the mccains take that honor after meghan and the two people attending the press conference explained to paris that the country we live in is actually called the "united states".

meghan went on to say, "we are truly excited about the prospect for opening the 'national museum of historical pop culture and pop superstar retirement home' in atlantic city. meghan replied "i love atlantic city" after a reported from creative loafing explained she was in atlanta, "i just love it here".

meghan went on to say the museum with be unique in that there would be a penthouse apartment retirement home dedicated, furnished and reserved for pop princess britney spears. the penthouse would actually reside atop an 500 foot recreation of a princess tiara. local atlanta fast food chain zaxby's has confirmed rumors that they will open their flagship location just below the revolving princess tiara.......it has been speculated that waffle house wanted that location, but lost after consulting with ms. spears confirmed she would prefer a chicken finger "joint" below her apartment.

not to loose out on the media attention this announcement has created within the past 24 hours, atlanta mayoral candidate kyle kyser dropped in as the press conference with ms. hilton and ms. mccain was comming to a close. in attendance with kyle, r&b pop princess and local atlanta resident ciara had to be removed from the press conference and was heard shouting something along the lines of "not in my town betches....that's supposed to be ciara's tiara."

after all the excitement generated from the press conference dropped down a notch or two, the los angeles firm backing the development announced there would be a bungy cord ride integrated into the museum where participants would be spung or slung (they're still not sure which verb to use) up into the air with the idea they would get a brief glimpe of britney's two known children fathered by k-fed. they also went on to say they had retained k-fed to manage the first of it's kind air-brush and coton candy booth to be located in the center of COP, "t-shirt relaxashuns and spun-spun sugar infections" will be the name of that establishment.

i seriously can't wait for the next announcement.

Between a Pirate Museum and a Health Museum, I'm going with the pirates. Some barbecue afterwards sounds good. Arr!

It doesn't really take something outlandish or very impressive from the exterior to make it a truly great symphony hall. For example, Nashville's Schermerhorn Symphony Center is built in the classic nature of those in Europe, but the it's true worth is the way technology reduces sound from outside, and makes it better inside.

I think they were looking to build an iconic structure for the city of Atlanta...hence the Calatrava design. I would agree that it doesn't need to cost $300 million.

The pirate museum idea sucks. A city like Tampa would be perfect for something like that, but what does Atlanta have to do with pirates??? It would be about as interesting as a thimble museum.

You are joking?! Really, a pirate museum in Atlanta makes as much sense as having an NFL team Oakland.
