Well, Atlanta already has Woodruff Arts Center...with the High Museum, Symphony Hall, and Alliance Theater all in one place. It's the largest arts campus in the Southeast, and pretty impressive in my book.
As far as a symphony hall, it takes a good bit of money to build such things and the economy has had a lot to do with the delay in building one. There was a fund with about half of the $300 million to build the Calatrava-designed symphony hall, but things have changed since then and I believe they are looking at new designs - hopefully less expensive but equally impressive ones. From what I understand it will be a part of Woodruff Arts Center as well.
