They got the fire under control very quickly - the smoke has disipated to mere wafts now. I can't see what it was that was on fire - maybe one of the boats moored next the Bayshore, though it seemed like it was a little bit more "inland" than the pier. Curses!! Bentall III is blocking my view.

CKNW is reporting that it was the boats that are on fire:

Boat fires send thick black smoke above downtown

10/13/2009

The black smoke wafting through Downtown Vancouver is coming from a fire in Coal Harbour.

Captain Gabe Roder with the Vancouver Fire Department says three vessels are on fire at Coal Harbour Marina.

The fire has now gone to a second alarm.

Roder says the cause of the fire is not yet known.

It's unclear if anyone is on the boats.

Fire crews are working to stretch the hoselines down the docks to be able to put out the fires...fire boats have been called-in and so far, fires on two of burning vessels have been extinguished.

Roder says there is concern neighboring boats could catch on fire as well.

Crews battle multiple boat fire in Coal Harbour
Updated: Tue Oct. 13 2009 09:55:01

Darcy Wintonyk, ctvbc.ca

Plumes of black smoke billowed over Vancouver's downtown core Tuesday morning following a serious boat fire on the waterfront.

At least three boats caught fire around in the Bayshore West Marina around 9 a.m.

It is believed the blaze first started in a 25-foot vessel moored at the marina and quickly spread to two others.

Vancouver Fire and Rescue services fought the fire from the Coal Harbour seawall. Crews were joined by the Coast Guard cutter "Osprey," which battled the blaze from the water.

The fire, which was considered a second alarm blaze, was extinguished in 40 minutes.

It is still unclear how the fire started. It is not known if anyone was on board any of the vessels.

Check back to CTV British Columbia for more on this developing story

Hi dt1010:

I'm curious as to what the investors said to you that convinced you not to go ahead with your purchase.

Thanks.

This is amazing.

Hopefully they compete well with the two Starbucks on either side of it.

One of the projects I had been hinting at.

This one is designed by Gregory Henriquez and is at 1401 Comox St, which is currently a site of an old chruch.

Quote:
To construct a new 22-storey residential rental building with 193 units (including 13 two-storey townhouses on the ground floor) and amenity space on the roof. Also included are three levels of underground parking for 81 vehicles and one Class 'B' loading space

Great news! Even though I dont really mind the church I am sure a Henriquez building will be an improvement. It will be interesting to see how easy this one is to push through, West End residents arent the most development friendly population.

It's a rental development - I'll go with only 2 trees (just enough for effect, but not so many that they'll have to get into any serious gardening)

WTH?! When did Google model all of the downtown buildings in 3D, rather than flat? That's the first I've seen that!
