Yes, b/c everyone opposing this club is white and want only white people patronizing nightclubs in the area. If that were the case, there'd be daily protests in front of Bulldogs. It has nothing to do w/ the level of traffic and parking problems you get by putting 20,000 sqft of club w/ only ~250 parking spaces on the block (no doubt costing $20-50 to park there) forcing cars to circle looking for parking. It also has nothing to do w/ the history of people cruising and causing traffic jams in front of Vision when it was around or the property crime from drunken club goers. Ask the residents near Velvet Room if they're happy w/ the amt of security the Gidewons provide. Compound's quiet but its only neighbors are a Marta depot and a few industrial buildings which isn't a problem. Instead you've got a few hundred million in condos directly overhead and people mostly out of SPI's target demographic no matter how upscale their zebrawood, marble, or chrome is.
Edit: I'm not saying there aren't people afraid of hip hop/black crowd who do frequent the Gidewon clubs...just saying that's not the only reason why the club is contested. We've been through this all before and I've enjoyed clubs like Vision, Compound, and Velvet Room for years as have many in the opposition. It's simply a matter of poor land use and trying to retain any semblance of homeowner equity.
