Yeah but what a painful way to do it. Your average customer of that parking lot isn't going to see it that way, and having Midtown simply jack up their prices may hurt downtown businesses, especially in the short term, while people get embittered and resentful before finally changing their thinking.

Then again, at least people will be angry at Midtown, instead of the city itself.

If the city were to increase its rates also, it'd be good PR to let everyone know that all those extra dollars will go into transit infrastructure and good progressive stuff like that.

Midtown's average customer won't pay $25 for underground parking as they are not parking more than 4 hours.

Do most people shop for 4 fours or more per visit? Midtown isn't West Edmonton Mall

Does anyone know what design the City selected for the east side slope stabilization project next to the University Bridge?

I am hoping they will avoid, or minimize the drab concrete and rock look as was chosen for other slope stabilization projects along the river, or at least try to green it up a bit. I suppose they could use steel paneling similar to Circle Drive near Taylor Street, sort of a terraced look with no aesthetic appeal.

Used to live in Saskatoon a couple years ago. At the time, there was talk of connecting 25th Avenue to Idylwyld. Has there been any news or work on that in the last couple years?

I wish I knew. Whatever design solution they went with the MVA would need to approve of it, but that does not necessarily mean aesthetics were a priority. We shouldn't expect something on the same level as River Landing (would be nice, but...). What was there before was fine, wasn't good or great though. There were what I would call rail ties stacked up to stabilize the slope, and a paved path following along the rail ties in a switchback pattern. Between the bridge and paved switchback was a set of stairs (I think they were rail ties too).

It is apparent they cleared a huge swath of trees, leaving open the possibility of a steep slope ideally suited for a snowboard/tobaggan hill come winter (add some LED lighting for ultimate

I'm thinking it will be similar to what they did beside the Broadway Bridge, sort of like a small pocket park, benches and trees, shrubbery, nothing too dense with rocks scattered about. A pocket park/toboggan hill would be the best choice, but would likely not happen due to the greed of Saskatchewan Crescent residents. Would someone please think of the children!(I actually don't know if this is the case, just a hunch).

The City has been talking a lot about the greatness of completing 25th Street, but construction has yet to begin (I think 2010 is when things will get underway). These past couple years the City began relocating some of their City Yards operations to other areas of the city to clear a path for 25th Street. As far as I can tell, the area is ready for utility and road work (though they have piles of dirt scattered about that would need to move).

Downtown notes: Hub City Collectibles and the Rexall Drug Store on 2nd have closed. It looks like a yoga-wear store is going in where Hub City used to be, while Sous Chef on 2nd is also open in the King George. Rexall had been there forever, good thing there's another drugstore across the street.

Is Rexall Drugs poised to build a bigger store? In Regina, they bought out an independent store a while back, was residing temporarily in a leased location, and later built and moved to their own (quite a bit ...) larger building, near (ie. a couple of blocks) a medical clinic which is abutted to a Pharmachoice Drug Store (formerly Price Watcher, a Saskatoon based company, recently merged with Pharmachoice East (Halifax based), and now called (what else?) Pharmachoice West, still Saskatoon based.)

Does anyone know what happened to Box Office Video on Avenue H? Drove by there the other day and it's gone... vanished - cleaned out and up for sale. The sign is down and the place is empty. Did they move, close up shop, what? Anyone have any leads? I was quite surprised actually!

Went to the opening of Scratch this weekend,
glad to see Saskatoon finally has a club...(most of our other bars i wouldn't consider a club... )

very modern, cool interior, giant bar, nice stage and open dance floor, menu looks fantastic.
and since its in Saskatoon you get the full style of people and age.
there were those in full formal, bus casual, the chic hippy, etc

BUT most importantly Saskatoon has a thriving nightlife downtown, and 2nd ave has turned into our new 'strip'!
Scratch, O'sheas, Flint, Odeon, Barking Fish, 2nd Ave Grill, etc
Freehouse, Staquatto and Winstons are right around the corner as well!

This is a huge step for Saskatoon!

Went to scratch last night too, wicked place to be, super modern and classy lookin, and alot of really good lookin people too! Drinks weren't overly expensive, a pint was 5.25. Definately going to be my new place. It's like the barking fish, but bigger, better and busier. It was PACKED. Loved it, 2nd ave is the place to be these days!

It's really nice to see Saskatoon developing its nightlife scene. Perhaps 2nd Ave. will become our new strip? There really could not be a better location in the city for this!! It's right in the heart of downtown which will now create activity in the city centre 24 hours a day!! Now all we need are a couple thousand, well in my opinion a couple 10's of thousands more people living downtown so we can continue to develop things in a positive manner likfe this!

Keo's opening a second location in the former Liberty's on 2nd Ave.

Some kind of cupcake place is going into the KG beside Taj Mahal.

2nd floor of KG is leased by an accounting firm.

I'm really blown away at how many modern stores are going up,
even my friend Theo has a new Comic Store on 2nd ave that is very modern and has funky art worth checking out weather or not you dig comics.

Once this movement moves thru downtown into 20th street then I'll be happy. Another few years...

Anyone know when residents move into the KG and Luxe?

I have said it before and I will say it again, 2nd Avenue is steadily marching toward its full potential as an interesting, lively, walkable street, day and night.

Thanks for posting those photos Kruzat. I'll be checkin' it out real soon. A classy combination of chilled out and energetic, with real DJs (no top 40s crap...I assume). The guy to girl ratio looks quite favorable too!

That place looks pretty nice although I don't think I'm attractive enough to go there, they'll probably stop me at the door, lol. I hope that this shifts the focus away from these dirty meat markets like Overdrive and The Sutherland though and more clubs open up like this one. I feel like I'm catching an STD just from walking into those places.
