Pretty old blog, but interesting information nonetheless. It would be awesome to see YEG catch up to YYC's numbers, though I wonder if that will happen in my lifetime.
Now, why have I been hearing that pro-muni advocates are trying to organize some sort of lawsuit now...? (Global news mentioned it a few weeks ago, so I suppose that should be taken with a grain of salt) ...Sadly, despite the milestone reached this summer, this debate probably won't be put to rest until the shovels are in the dirt for condos.

Hawaii is my guess. Apparently they made an announcement this morning in Calgary about YYC-HNL already.
Who did? Westjet? Our current aircraft can't reach HNL from YYC. And upon reading your post I was trying to find news on TV or on the internet to that effect, and haven't seen any mention of it! And our friends in the know over in the Calgary forum haven't even mentioned a Calgary announcement!

I'm looking and can't find anything yet. But I swear that I heard Suzanne Fox on City TV say this morning that they had a Westjet guy on earlier who made the announcement.

Westjet To Launch Non-Stop Flights To Hawaii From Calgary, Edmonton

CALGARY - WestJet Airlines Ltd. will offer non-stop flights to Hawaii from Calgary and Edmonton starting in March.
The eight week runs will offer non-stop flights from Calgary to both Maui and Honolulu, and Edmonton to Maui, through to the end of April.
WestJet, Canada’s second-largest carrier, currently flies to Hawaii, but doesn’t offer non-stop flights.
The Calgary-based carrier will make the official announcement later today and said unlike its main competitor, it will offer non-stop flights from Edmonton to Maui.
The wait is related to aircraft availability. WestJet will take delivery of six new aircraft between now and March, part of its confirmed orders for 54 aircraft through 2016, and those aircraft will be used for the new flights and other new destinations on its winter schedule.
Earlier this year, Air Canada announced it will begin direct flights to Hawaii from Calgary in December. The carrier will offer up to five weekly flights from Calgary.
Canda's biggest airline already offers 15 weekly flights during peak winter from Vancouver to Hawaii.
I brought this up in the YYC thread also, but how does WJ plan on operating these flights if they are indeed weight restricted? (besides obviously operating them with restrictions)
I'm checking the wiki page now for 737 ranges, and it appears that from both YYC and YEG the two destinations are within the maximum range. But I swear I've also heard that there would be weight penalties to operate these routes.
Edit: Stupid wikipedia had the ranges in KM's instead of nautical miles. I changed the numbers and both destinations get a lot tighter with the maximum ranges.
