That line (Glencross/Langks/Theo) has certainly made a strong case to be our second line. The first line would likely be Bourque with the obvious other 2. I don't think that Backlund has played himself on the team. Let him develop his offense in the A, not as a 4th liner here.

I've listened to many a Flames-Oilers game on lonely nights on teh highway over the years. Often times I would switch back and forth between the Edmonton and Calgary stations for fun. You would swear there were 2 different games going on. BOTH sides (on radio anyhow) are 'homers' ina huge way.

All announcers are homers to some degree. Maybe I'm biased, being a Flames fan, but the Oiler's announcers always seemed less objective.

I've listened to a few Oiler games in the last couple of seasons...at a time when the Oilers aren't even expected to be a playoff team (at least by people outside of Edmonton), but from the way the announcers talk, you'd think they were the best team in the league.

Backlund got sent down along with 2 other players. Flames have 17 forwards now, and they need to cut that down to 12. Fleury has done really well in making it this far, but within the next few days we will find out if he will get a spot on the roster. If Fleury gets sent down to Abbotsford, he will have to clear waivers first.

Likely only has to get cut down to 14 forwards, not twelve, since usually teams carry 2 extra forwards and an extra defenseman.

Whatever the numbers are, it sounds like the Flames have to cut 2 more forwards and one more D. When McGratton is healthy, and if the Flames want to keep him, then they'd have to cut one more.

John Armstrong is only with the main Flames camp because he's injured and thus can be sent down.

Fluery has already said that he'd play in Abbotsford if its going to help him. I think it'd be a good for him to play a month or two out here for no other reason than I bought season tickets to the Heat, and I don't feel like waiting until January to see him play.

Fleury might not be good enough to make this team, but I'm starting to think he's good enough to make a few other NHL clubs out there. I wouldn't be surprised if he signs with someone else just so he gets to play in the big leagues....it's not like he has plenty of time to just wallow in the minors for a while waiting or a call up. His future was yesterday.

I think Fleury might start off in the minors, and be a call-up down the road, and get 20-40 games in at the NHL level. Talent wise & hockey knowledge wise, he seems to still have it. Speed wise he might be a little lacking. It's only preseason, but he hasn't hurt the Flames he's played in. Scoring a point per game he's played, and being +4 (something like that) in his 4 games as well.

There's a chance he's with the big club to start the season.

I don't think Fleury wants to play for any other team, that will probably keep him with the Flames organization.

What a pile of crap. Sutter said he had to be in the top 6 to make the team, which was pretty much impossible. This sucks. At least he got a great reception from the fans at the dome.

Like I've said, talent wise, Fleury still had it, he just couldn't keep up speed wise any more. He'd also be taking up the place of a young guy that would have potential to get better - whether Fleury would be in Calgary or in Abbotsford, that would be the case.

I think the Flames would have put him in Abbotsford if they thought there was any chance of him coming up.

Fleury can go out with his head held high, he did better in the preseaon then almost anyone expected.

Now let's retire that #14!

While part of me is a little surprised that they cut him after a pretty good showing, another part of me isn't. I always felt that this was a tough lineup to crack, as much as I would have loved it if he had made it.

That being said, the Flames gave him a shot. At the very least, it will help bring closure for his career. Sure, it's only pre-season, but it is a better way to go out than being suspended for substance abuse.

At best, be might get signed by another team that could use the help. There are definitely some out there who would benefit from having him.

Good on the Flames for giving him the chance, and even more so, good on him for a good showing. I hope that he shows up somewhere (preferably outside of the NW) and keeps this thing rolling for a little while longer.

Part of me hopes he shows up somewhere else, but for the most part I hope he retires this time. I'd really like to see him get a token job within the Flames organization, similar to what Joe Nieuwendyk does in Toronto (Special Assistant to the General Manager).

I say if he wants to play regardless of the team, go for it, but I think he had his heart set on the Flames. I'm not so sure he will go anywhere else.
