First off doesn't the U-Pass have a face picture on it? I don't have one so I'm not sure. But if it does what good is it to try and sell it.

As for the numbers hmm 8,000 an hour. So is that on average or just during the peak. If we assume it is average than based on 21 hours of operation that equates to 168,000 per day

Now if we assume that 8,000 is the peak. it is harder to figure out the daily usage. But lets assume that we can maintain that for 12 hours namely 7am -7pm that means the daily ridership is 96,000.

I used the CL last night at about 6:45 and went from Waterfront to Cambie/Broadway. It was busy--all seats taken with just as many (if not more) passengers standing.

The other stations were quite busy as well, with many passengers embarking and disembarking at each of VCC*, Yaletown, and fewer at OV.

*By the way, I don't like the VCityCentre name, which is similar to VCC/Clark. Why didn't they have an entrance at Robson st. and call it Robson, which is one of the most recognizable streets in the city?

What's 80% of current daily capacity?

I must say, each time I've been on the Canada Line, the trains do seem to be about 80% full, with all seats taken and a lot of standees. So with less than 80% full during low times made up for by 100% (or more it seems) ridership in the peak hours, 80% sounds like a good end to end average.

Even Georgia is recognizable and would have been a good name. Everyone knows where Georgia street is, and it pairs well with Granville Station, with Granville @ Georgia being the intersection between them.

I used the train on Monday heading South at 6:30. The train was a Brighouse train, and was at least 100% full (people at other stations couldn't get on until someone got off).

And trains going in the other direction, North (where you can see them when stopped at stations) were also 100% full, probably because of the Canucks game.

It's good to see people already using C-Line to get to the game. Anyone do that yet? How busy is it after the game?

Agreed. Vancouver City Centre is a terrible name choice...the people making the decisions often don't think it through. It was originally named Robson Station, assuming the station entrance would be located at Robson and Granville. In the past, I've said "West Georgia Station" would have made much more sense.

According to the Buzzer, staff are calling it "Vancouver Centre Station" or codename "VCS" as it has previously caused some confusion.

Hopefully. I think this is the first branding evidence we've seen 'possibly' moving in that direction since the blue/yellow roundel TL had shown in a wayfinding drawing a couple of years ago. As for the 'T', it's great as it covers, Translink, transit, trains. Other cities that use T - Oslo, Stockholm, Boston, Pittsburgh. It also reminds me of Berlin U-Bahn branding, except without a U.

Looks like the pathway has been diverted through retail, versus the original plans.

I have a friend who goes to Capilano and bought a U-Pass from someone for really cheap. They have the same colour skin and same colour hair and that's about it, but apparently transit operators never even look at the picture.

This reminded me, I forgot to mention I jumped on a southbound Canada Line train from Bridgeport to Aberdeen on Friday night around 6pm.

The train was 100% full (to the door, some people didn't even attempt getting on) but after it closed its doors, it just sat there for awhile. After a minute the doors opened again, and a few frustrated people got off while a couple others jumped on. The doors closed a second time and again the train sat there for at least another minute. It abruptly jolted forward a foot then stopped again for 30 seconds before smootly rolling forward. It was an odd first experience on the Canada Line and I wonder if it is a common occurrence?

On a southbound train a few days ago, after leaving Yaletown the electronic display went blank and all voice announcements stopped. Before entering a station the display would flash on for half a second then go blank. Haven't seen this glitch before or since.

There are also employer discounted passes...for example, BC Hydro charges you ~$15 a month and they pay the rest. They only have your name, and no picture...last about I year I believe.

No that is not how it is. The translink employer pass program gives a 15% discount on purchasing standard monthly passes. Some employers may pay the $15 to enter the program. It is for 12 months and I believe you do get your picture on it. I don't have one as I try to bike to work for 7 months of the year.

you also need a minimum number of employees to sign up before they will do it - i know they tried 3 times where i used to work and not enough people signed up - and there were 100's of employees

the # needed must be pretty high or people just didn't care

15% is not a huge savings. Is it more than what retailers get the passes for? Anyone know the markup?

Ron.
