I cant explain any better than, I come home from work every morning and check up whats going on. I know about the " Its going to slow" crap but to be honest, I enjoy the play by play from those in the know. I'm not concerned about the comlpetion date as much as I enjoy the daily updates of whats going on. I am not an expert nor do I add much to this thread, but I probably read as much here as most. I can truly say, that once this building starts going up,(Although it is) that I will surely have alot more knowledge as to what it takes to build such a building! By the way 9 11 turned out to be a pretty good day to take the day off, weather sucks!

What an annoying video.
If you build it, they will come. Keep hoping and waiting, and you get nothing. These time lines are incredibly pathetic. These buildings, more so with the abilities of today, should be done in three years tops. You look at the history of construction and you think...

I am not one of those sensitive people to get all, "I don’t care, just as long as we remember those that died." Well, in retrospect, taking this long is, and as I said, with the abilities of technology today, extremely disrespectful to those that died. We should have had a memorial not six months after; instead, we are concern with cost and renting space.

Sorry, but I think it is very important to discuss the delays now, and if need be, over and over, to get the message out that we need to finish this now so those families that suffered can walk to a place of peace and remembrance and/or tip their hats off to the great technological developments put into this building. Moreover, not look at a building that took 16-20 years to construct because of fear of money problems. To me, it is just another reminder that cost is more important to many than a life.

Are they going to put concrete covering over these beams, because for some reason it seems a bit unsafe.

The core beams yes, the outer beams no.

Also, before those upper outer beams are to go up at the base, both cores and steel within will have to rise to an equal or greater height before so.

Either they turned off the camera for the rest of the afternoon, or constant rain finally shorted it out.

That depiction of what the base will look like is amazing. It's size definitely compliments the base of the Shanghai WFC and 7 WTC.

look at the steel beams connecting the outer columns to the core, huge and thick.. big difference from the truss connectors used in the former towers.

Earthcam 3

While the main earthcam is down again, the long dormant panning earthcam 3, which has been MIA for nearly two months is back..... almost like an old friend!

The red steel reminds me of a shipyard rather than a skyscraper base. Also, the beams are more densely-arranged with irregular spacing. The engineering of this building looks to be totally different from other skyscraper bases on the same scale. It will be interesting to see how much of that is simply due to the fact that we're still close to the ground, and it will start to take a more familiar form when it gets higher.

^Well, the base is meant to be blast resistant and and the design does reflect that.

Personally, it's the thickness of the rebar and concrete that impresses me.

An idea of just how robust the base will be, and how much will have to rise before we start seeing the office floors built...

Hmm... What are those step like things around the base? They differ from render to render but they're still there in every render! And from what I see I don't like. I hope they don't build them, or they dome something different because they look really really bad. Plus I thought the entrances were at street level?

Anyways, I like the lit up lines in the plaza pointing to each entrance!

The entrances are at street level. Those step like things are more like "bleechers" for the public plazas. There are also extra steps at West Street due to the lower grade (as with the memorial).

Update from morrongiello (Sept 14)

Looks like some concrete on the western plaza...
