anyone notice the massive trench next to the TX Monthly Bldg.? i assume that's going to be the new Hyatt’s Andaz Hotel project. glad to see it's moving forward. i guess that'll be one of the last major high rises built for awhile.

At 68 100 degree days in Austin this summer. Only one away from the all time record of 69 recorded in 1923.

Taco Austonian

Lamar Pedestrian Bridge. I guess this is one of the Capitol View Corridors.

Lamar Pedestrian Bridge - Gables, Spring & Monarch

While I was on the pedestrian Bridge, a group of 10 wanted me to take their photos. I took several with the sunset behind them, then made them go on the other side to get the skyline behind them. I asked where they were visiting from and they were all from Hong Kong. I asked if they were visiting any other cities while they were in the U.S. and they said no - just Austin. They said the only other U.S. City they'd been in was New York but only at the airport. That's where they changed planes. Later, I saw them on the trail and they were all waving and smiling. I love this city.

Skyline from the Lamar Pedestrian Bridge

From there, I wandered over to Butler Park

Skyline from near the observation hill.

Amli 2, The W Hotel, and Frost Tower.

Skyline from observation hill.

Last stop was the garage for Palmer Events Center & the Long Center.

So THAT's what building I was seeing off in the distance! Thanks!

I wonder why the blue neon lights at One Congress Plaza were dark tonight?

Been working way too much lately, no days off in 3 weeks. Bleah! But I did take enough time off this morning to walk to Whole Foods and back (dodging triathletes), with a few digressions for photos.

Already have San Antonio street blocked off, next to Fed courthouse site.

Has anyone noticed at the Austonian Site; there is a black crane thing; looks like the ones that take down the crane. Could it be possible that the crane will be coming down??

No, I haven't noticed that yet. Seems a bit early but it's certainly possible they're getting ready to bring it down.

360 could really use some lighting around the whole structure. The lighting of the tower to the spire is cool but it could use a bit more. Also what kind of tree are they going to use to top the Austonian? My choice would be a Siberian Elm which are adept to such high altitudes.

I think 360 has the best lighting yet, although it's nearly a three way tie between it Frost and The Monarch. I do wish they had lit all the way up to the very top of the spire, but it still looks beautiful. And I still think 360 is my favorite new building so far.

I actually hate pretty much everything about the Monarch's lighting scheme down to their stupid neon fountains at street level. Looks like something that should be in Miami.
