Phaneuf's not getting traded. I think the "rumblings" are coming from jealous fans of other teams.

Leafs land Primeau in Flames trade

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired forward Wayne Primeau and a second-round draft pick in 2011 from the Calgary Flames in exchange for defenceman Anton Stralman, forward Colin Stuart and a seventh-round draft pick in 2012.

Primeau, a 33-year-old native of Scarborough, Ontario played in 24 games for Calgary in 2008-09 and registered four assists with 14 penalty minutes. The 6-4, 225-pound forward missed 58 regular season games and the playoffs this past season due to a foot injury. In 715 career NHL games with Calgary, Buffalo, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, San Jose and Boston, he has recorded 186 points on 66 goals and 120 assists with 754 minutes in penalties. Primeau was originally Buffalo’s first choice, selected 17th overall, in the 1994 Entry Draft.

Stralman split the 2008-09 season between the Maple Leafs and the AHL’s Toronto Marlies. In 38 games for the Maple Leafs he collected one goal and 12 assists along with 20 penalty minutes. With the Marlies he earned seven goals and nine assists along with 24 minutes in penalties. Stralman was selected by the Leafs 216th overall in the 2005 Entry Draft.

Stuart was originally acquired by the Leafs along with Garnet Exelby from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for Pavel Kubina and Tim Stapleton on July 1, 2009. Stuart played for both Atlanta and the AHL’s Chicago Wolves in 2008-09. In 33 games with the Thrashers he had five goals and three assists along with 18 penalty minutes.

Big Bert's done here. The cap space will be for Dustin Boyd and to avoid the injury debacle of last spring.

Good laugh, leaf fans here think Primeau is great addition... grit and toughness.
He's a home town boy.
Guess they have never seen him fight, good salary dump by Sutter.
I dry heave everytime I have listen to leaf fans at work. 42 years and counting for a cup

Good riddance, Primeau was useless. Bertuzzi's ride in Calgary is over, Sutter isn't even talking to him.

Boyd comes a bit cheaper for Flames

Forward Dustin Boyd re-signed Thursday with the Calgary Flames for $650,000 US.
That represents a slight pay cut from last season's base salary of $675,000 US.
"When you're not signed and you see all these guys getting signed, you get a little nervous," Boyd said.
Key to negotiations for Boyd was securing a one-way contract, reducing the likelihood of demotion to the minors.
"I wanted to get a one-year deal and see what happened," he said. "Go out and have a good year and go from there."
Boyd, 23, posted 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points in 71 games last season, his third in the NHL.
The Winnipeg native has totalled 20 goals and 38 points in 132 NHL games since he was drafted in the third round (98th overall) by Calgary in 2004.

I actually very disappointed that practices have not been open to the public, and that they are charging so much to go see a scrimmage. Last time around (IIRC) they practiced at Father David Bauer and it was open to the public, for free. I went down one day and watched and it was fantastic. Too bad they are shutting people out this time.

I'll be going. I'm not sure where I'm sitting yet as my brother-in-law bought the tickets. I'll find out when I get there I guess! I'm quite looking forward to it. I have been itching for hockey lately, and this might be enough to tide me over until the pre-season starts.

We opted to go for that 3-pack thing where we get this scrimmage, plus women's and junior games in December. $75 a piece is pretty good for 3 games that you don't get to see every day.

As for the practices being closed, I wouldn't have been able to get down there anyway, but I can't see why it wouldn't be open to the public. Maybe even ask for a food bank donation or a $5 donation to charity or something - could make it a very positive thing. Not to mention some extra goodwill for Hockey Canada and such.
