Great signing, this is the guy they needed. Roy just couldn't throw them anymore.

The Calgary Flames have added an element of toughness on Saturday as the team announced the signing of free agent forward Brian McGrattan. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

One of the most feared 'heavyweights' in professional hockey, the 29-year old Hamilton native earned 22 penalty minutes in just five games with the Phoenix Coyotes last season.

Originally selected in the fourth round, 104th overall, by the Los Angeles Kings in the 1999 NHL Entry draft, McGrattan broke into the league with the Ottawa Senators in the 2005-06 season.

In 148 career games, McGrattan has two goals, eight assists and 309 minutes in penalties

He had 551 pim in the AHL in 04/05 in 71 games.

Can't wait for him to kick the crap out of MacIntyre in first greasers/flames game.
This guy is top 3 in NHL for "don't want to fight him" cause my face is gonna get broke...bad.

I wasn't sure we needed this kind of player, but McGratton is a good one to have. Sweet. He'll probably only play 40 games or so, the cap hit will be almost nothing.

not offered contract, he is 35 or 36 now, I'd say he will hang them up.
He has a ring and had a good run, if you watched him fight this past year, he really can't throw them like he did 4/5 years ago.

Apparently he was a good guy in the dressing room - I think that's where we'll miss him the most. On the ice he's definitely past his prime.

^^He can score 10-15 goals pretty easily too. D. Sutter's been after him for a while now, (tried to get him at the deadline, but Phoenix offered Morris) and B. Sutter coached him on the World Junior team that Phaneuf played on.

He's a defensively minded player, so that seems to fit with our new goal of, you know, playing defense this year.

As long as he stays out of the penalty box he should be a good 3rd - 4th line player. Any news on Bert?

McGratton is a prety good signing imo. He's much tougher than Roy, and his salary is also less. It should be interesting to see him lineuip against McIntyre or Bougaard.

ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Washington Capitals have traded defeceman Keith Seabrook to the Calgary Flames for future considerations.

Seabrook was taken by Washington in the second round of the 2006 NHL entry draft.

He played with the WHL's Calgary Hitmen the last two seasons.

I'm hearing rumblings that Phaneuf might be considered a distraction in the locker room. While I can't see Sutter trading his poster child, I dunno - anything's possible.

Phaneuf for Heatley? Replace one distraction with another?
