^ As much I wish that an iconic 60-storey Stantec Tower to go up - I doubt that it would happen anytime soon. Remember that even with the ECCA partly closed, there's still a height restriction in place, and even if NavCan or whoever the Powers That Be were talked into easing height restrictions just west of 102 St, they still probably wouldn't allow anything taller than the Manulife Place to go up.

I believe the only way there'll ever be anything anywhere near as tall as the Urbia towers is that ECCA to be shut down completely. However, there are those who say that ECCA's second runway could be closed within less than a decade or even less than 5 years. I hope these people are right.

NavCan - "Ooo sorry Stantec, thats much to tall and epic for the airport overlay. I'm afraid you will have to downsize."

Stantec - "Bye-bye Edmonton, perhaps Calgary has a parking lot they'd like to replace with a bitchin' HQ..."

/\ haha. Yeah probably not. I'm sure they are content with their current set up. Until you have a large number of employees spread out around a number of buildings over a larger geographic area, and in doing so it is detrimental to cohesive productivity, there is no desire or need to consolodate into anything new/larger.

Anyone been to the Motoraunt? I'd vaguely known about it, and must had been going past it for 20 years without having any idea it was there.

Pretty decent burger (I didn't get the 2 1/2# one though), and definitely a unique experience.

onishenko, aren't they already in three buildings (and that's counting the two towers and the addition on 111th as a single building)?

ExcaliberKid, the risk of losing stantec won't likely come from their not being able to build a 60 storey building in edmonton, it will be from their not being able to provide suitable air connections to the world's financial centres for a new york stock exchange listed company. and the odds are probably better that we would lose them to chicago or boston than calgary so all of alberta would lose as a result of the kind of petty regional squabbling we haven't gotten over with ecca and that some would like to continue with hsr.

Havn't been there in a long time. I'll have to try it again. Didn't it used to be downtown originally (years ago) before it moved to 66th? I believe where Rogers Video on Jasper is now.

Yes, it used to be downtown, and moved years ago (and grew). It was originally just a parked bus converted into a 2-level restaurant. Now, the bus is somewhere in the complex (and there's no other way to describe the restaurant), but it's barely visible.

My brother goes to the Motoraunt all the time, and I get there whenever I'm back in Edmonton. They specialize in burgers and fries. They may have other things on the menu, but I've never had them. I highly recommend it, though I don't think I'd take a girl there on our first date.

Food: fantastic, plentiful. Be careful what you order or you'll end up with more food than you can eat in a week.
Price: cheap
Athmosphere: out of this world
Location: 66 St between the Yellowhead and the LRT tracks

Just don't go there if you're in a hurry. If there's more than 4 people in the restaurant, the server/cook/hostess/jacqueline-of-all-trades gets pretty run off her feet.

Did any of you ever make it into Korean Beauty on 118th ave by that old Safeway that is now a flea market ?

Went with a friend whos' godparents owned & ran the place. It was in a building that apparently used to house one of Edmonton's first alternative clubs called The Cave. We're eating bulgoki & kimchi in & amongst formed plaster stelagtites & a bunch of 70's throwback bar type advertisments.... complete with all the typical asian decorations you'd expect. It's now an accountant office unfortunately.

Now I'm really interested to check out this place.

That place was amazing and the owner Mike was a great guy. Too bad it is gone, the food was superb and was very unique inside.

^ You can go to Mikes' Barbecue House in Redwater... He & his wife moved it out there a few years ago. The food is still incredible... not quite the ambience of the old place though.

Now let's just get rid of the eyesore between the CN parking lot, and the Epcor Tower, and we're set. Loving the improvements, and once you view the pics side to side, it's a fairly big change.
