Thanks for the pics Yume-sama. It's certainly a nice room, but for $425 a night, I think I'd use that money towards a $650 Vegas trip for 4 nights.

It looks like it is just textured. I have never seen tiled carpet that small - also, tiled carpet is typically not as soft as regular carpet as it needs to be rigid in order to stay together as well as be removed.

According to this website anyway.

For the record I also agree with Doug's point about the actual height being more important than the # of storeys.
Found this gem in one of the calgary cnstruction threads... Shangri-La has a spire? Are they talkign about the window washign crane that wont go away?

It's an interesting spire, to be sure!

I have my theories it is a secret missile defense radar thingy!

Hmm, Encana would have to be something more sinister and evil since it is an Oil company, probably in cahoots with Halliburton!

Something like a "24" scenario where they are making their own nuclear / biological weapons.

Thanks for the pics. The room seems way overdone for a hotel room IMO. Especially the bathroom with that ugly marble and a window for a wall. Those people in the office building probably all have a pair of binoculars by now

Sony is nothing special...do they even manufacture anything anymore? I guess a couple of MP3 players and some other minor stuff. They just assemble/rebadge a number of thing now and put their logo on it. Sony recently switched from using Samsung LCD panels to Sharp LCD panels, so that Sharp would have probably been equal or better. Not to mention the main component, the tuner, is either made by Samsung or Phillips. If it had a DVD drive built in, that was probably made by Hitachi/LG.
I never understood why someone would pay an additional 15% for 4 words printed on the front of something.

Yes, I'm aware. But the point is, it's expensive and they didn't cheap out.

It's not at 200.9 meters, while the roof is 196.9 as the diagrams says though is it?

Ha. I used to work in that office building and we were very confused as to why they were building the bathrooms there. :S

I agree. I think we need red beacons on all major office towers and other tall signature skyscrapers. It iwll actually make downtown Vancouver look better.

Certainly adds to downtown Seattle quite a bit.

Ditto the Red Beacons, even if the buildings do have logo's

Buildings that should have Beacons:

Shangri-La, Wall Centre, RBC, Park Place, Bentall 3, 4, 5, Hotel Georgia, Shaw, Fairmont, and Woodwards.

Never did get a clear answer about the spire. Jlousa, would you know if it's anything substantial? Shouldn't be on the database if it isn't true.

^^ re the aerial beacons,

especially since Vancouver Water Aerodrome is a MUCH busier air facility than most other city downtowns can boast (including Seattle) - it is weird that the COV doesn't yet require the tallest office towers and (now) mixed use skyscrapers to have em.

I agree with your list: Shangri-La, Wall-Centre, RBC, Bentall 3-4-5, Georgia, Shaw, Fairmont Pacific Rim, and Woodwards

I would add: 666 Burrard, Harbour Centre, Burrard Centre (Vancouver Sun), and maybe a few skyscrapers in downtown south and West End. Also, I forget the name of the tallest skyscraper in Coal Harbour, but that one too.

It owuld look great to have these buildings lit up with red beacons and certainly would add to safety - without having a classless sign. So far, only Canada Place (aka Pan Pacific hotel) has the beacon lights.

Empire Landmark? Or Melville? I figured Melville's sail did the trick, but if they turn it off on a regular basis then a set of lights running down the sail would be pretty cool.

And I agree with your suggestions (666 is Park Place fyi). Don't know how I could have forgotten Harbour Centre. The Telus building?

Do they have/would they need any on the new convention centre?

While they would look nice, I worry about there being to many. There will come a point where it's just pointless for a shorter building between two taller buildings to have the lights. One of these might be Bentall 3?
