^ no, they said before that the existing Olympic section on the main floor would eventually take over something like 75% of the entire main floor....sounds like 5x bigger than what's there right now.

Some guy from north or west van owns the thing. I believe I remember them saying something along the lines that there will be a surprise soon, so who knows. Search up some pictures, find the boat's official name (written on the side), and a transport canada page comes up with more information.

source: http://www.wraiths.ca/mcbarge.htm

i have walked along the beach and tried to throw stones at it. i think it's in pretty bad shape but i've heard (rumour!!!) Blade 3 was filmed there.

it would be nice to bring this back for the olympics. it would also be nice to get this f**k**g eyesore out of our inlet.

Can't recall what else is on the main floor of The Bay - but I can see the entire east half of the ground floor devoted to the Olympics.
I can't see The Bay relocating its cosmetics counters for the two weeks - but if they do - it would be HUGE - the sightlines and high ceiling'd space has great potential.

In order to have Canada House at The Bay (my guess is the top floor since it has a kitchen facility for the cafeteria and has the ornate skylight area) they would have to keep the store open to at least midnight each day - which is conceivable.

That is correct. I watched Blade 3 a year or so ago and couldn't believe when I saw that Blade's base was the McBarge.

It does look to be in pretty bad shape:

Hockey fans to get their own facility

By John Colebourn, Canwest News Service
June 4, 2009

A giant gathering place for hockey-mad fans is planned for the upcoming Winter Olympics.

The 80,000-square-foot facility will be at Concord Canada Place, by Pacific Boulevard and a short walk from GM Place, the venue for the hockey games being played by the world's best players.

Official Olympic brewers Molson, Hockey Canada and the International Ice Hockey Federation are co-sponsors of the giant hospitality complex.

The National Hockey League and the NHL Players Association could also be involved.

VisionCo. is handling the marketing of the complex that could see upwards of 4,000 hockey fans a day.

VisionCo. spokeswoman Marsha Mowers said details are being finalized.

The facility will have events before and after the Olympic hockey games.

"It is going to be a great place to live the Olympic experience," she said.

Full details are to be released next week, she said.

The hospitality venue, like many others being planned, will get a special temporary liquor licence. The permit will allow children to be inside the sponsor's licensed hospitality suites.
