Pearl Company News
Our first court appearance last Friday was quite an experience and bordered on humiliation. There we were lumped in with the traffic court and other by-law offences. Quite a line-up and I mean that literally. The line went right down the hall. Put us in our place – just two more people who think they can disregard a by-law... The case was remanded on the advice of our lawyer to June 19 to set a date for trial; this all depends on how forthcoming the city will be to provide us, in a timely manner, with the information that we have requested concerning our property (and other relevant files) in order to help with our defense. Ron and Judith accompanied Gary to City Hall last week before our ‘court appearance’ to ask for these files. You can read their account posted on our website. What a mess!
I loved Jeff Mahoney’s column on the insanity that is gripping city hall over the (probable) pipe dream of an NHL franchise. He finished with: “Maybe council would do better to spend its efforts getting its bureaucrats and jobbers out of the way of doable, realistic, positive enterprises such as The Pearl Company and give up on will o' the wisps billionaire-esque fantasies.” Nice, eh?
