Linked by pedestrian skywalks to office towers, it is a high density “downtown” type of project with a multi-story sky-domed, upscale retail mall anchored by a major department store and all-suite hotel. I've fixed a few paragraphs; see below.

URBAN DISASTER EXPERIENCE

As an example, the $50M, 200,000 sf house of cards previously known as Eaton Centre (before we handed the keys back to the bank) is credited for putting the revitalization of Edmonton's downtown core back 20 years....

Triple Five played the City of Edmonton like a five-cent —, scamming millions in property tax rebates in return for not performing as suggested. Funny how the City didn't clue in right away, when the underlying infrastructure for the promised towers was not included when the mini-WEM was built.

^^ Yup, I can see it from my place. Anyone know how many floors they're adding? And are they adding to the old building, or the newer add-on?

240, whats "9804 - 107 STREET NW" pardon my ignorance.
it is a pretty cool 1:15 video clip of the full show...

the arena itself shows up for all of 3 seconds at the 25 - 28 second mark and it's hard to tell where it is even if you "freeze" it but it's not gene dub's rendition or location for it. if you look at the very end of the "quarters" growth bit at the 24 second mark you'll see it shows this arena on the north-east corner of jasper and 97th street across from canada place.

the "problem" is than you never know how much of these productions are really current potential or if they are just an amalgamation of things and clips from the past that are cool and maybe even representative but aren't actually on the table. on the other hand, i think the city already owns a good piece of that block. unfortunately that block already includes the goodrich building as well as the gem theatre in addition to some surface parking and some garbage as well as the ukrainian museum block (which has been on hold ostensibly for "fund-raising"???). on balance would an arena here - where it could be directly connected to both the conference centre and the lrt and be within a block of the hotel macdonald and the westin and sir winston churchill square warrant a serious look?

^I doubt it'll be at the corner of 97th/Jasper NEC as shown in the video, that spot is home to a high concentration of historic buildings and they won't be demolished. Besides the Quarters has a lot of Parking lots - use those, like you said. Plus that block has so much potential, with Louise McKinney Park across the street and the Valleyview nearby.

ChillN, thanks for the link.

Ian that looks like an interesting site thanks.

Haha @ CCM. Not the best urban revitalization, I guess it's not bad considering the retail that is there but it in no way a catalyst for development. s211 got it.

And that is a killer WEM shot, back on the previous page. Look at all that parking lots where it looks P4 would be, and P3?

That 104 street image looks amazing. The Cecil Hotel looks cool, and it's sad to see that so many of those historic bldgs were destroyed. In the case of Sobeys I don't mind, but where ICON is now.

^ I don't like it. And the Quarters rendering looks too imposing. No human scale. I like the LMP thing tho.

Did anyone also notice the sloped Shaw "twin" in the Quarters shot?

Don't analyze it too much, EE, it's just a visualization of "what could be," to stir the imagination a little. It's not a concrete development plan of any sort.

Yes, it is just a 'visualization' or 'blue sky thinking'....nothing more. Don't bet your left nut on any of it...come on.

sun shadows are all wrong for that to be "from the north looking south". and the streets aren't right for that barrel vault in the foreground to be the brownlee building. the only place this image "works" - whether it's the "right" place for an arena or not - is for that to be looking west along jasper avenue with the arena on the north side of the street and the embankment down to grierson hill road on your left... just don't ask me why canada place was photoshopped out of this image when it's clearly the same building as the one in the quarters image...
