Man, the Arndt Tkcalcic site's got a lot of neat renders for Edmonton.

I like the Mayfair proposal as well as Cascadia and the Azure.

^The future looks bright for Edmonton in terms of architecture and urban planning. ATB is going to probably be the anchor in this, and it is a great firm. BZKA could perhaps eventually get better I'm sure. GMH is too bad cause it's such a major player in the city, yet produces mostly — buildings.

Just climbed out of my end-of-term study cocoon.

My hat is off to ATB. A lot of their product has similar elements, but it's revolutionary for Edmonton and the — that has come out of other firms in the area.

Isn't there a church in between? Plus the church has a portion of that parking lot too.

Can't be. The public hearing documents said it was only going to be 6-8 stories tall at the rugby field. The suburbanite community threw a — storm over that... they wanted it reduced to 4... I think they settled on 6 max? I have no idea, this is just vague recollection.

I thought that as well, but the stormpond in one of the images is non-existant on / near that parcel.

Clairmont Village

Virginia Park

It's quite interesting to see how similar these towers are with Central that was designed by Cheng for Century Park. It seems like ATB is taking a page from Cheng, which is excellent.

Azure and Cascadia are excellent. I love that they put Azure's residential reception area off the alley/street car stop, which allows for retail on Jasper. Someone tell BZA that you are allowed to put design effort into all four sides of an Edmonton building.

Unfortunately, I think they've missed the boat with the Mayfair.

Sweet, I hope they reno Chancery Hall. The design will really open up the lobby to Churchill Square.

/\ No idea. First I've seen of it. But based on the pedestrian walkway they are showing I think that is 88th Ave, between 110th and 111th. This would put it at the SW corner of that intersection, which is currently open space.

on the topic of student housing....

My construction methods class had a lecture by a couple architects from ONPA and since our prof is one of the leading experts in modular construction much of the focus was directed toward ONPA concepts that would use such methods. A couple renderings were shown of student housing for the east side of campus and other lowish income medium density projects around the city. They all had the appearance of those sketchup drawings Cold made up last spring, which is a good thing.

^ I Don't know about that. That thing looks like it is a block long.

It's maybe a step better than Venetian, but it's a tiny baby step.

This POS looks similar to the renderings of the Mayfair.

^ Yup, I still think you're crazy.

The success of the Mayfair will depend almost entirely on the finishing, and has a distinct old Chicago look to it. That other thing is just ugly.
