^ at this point, i think they're gonna leave it as is. It's also like that for Aberdeen. Seems a bit odd though, it kills the symmetry of the station. And surely, it can't be for ventilation? The station is already quite open.

the canada line map. are they seriously going to use the ones they have in now? not sure if anyone knows whether intransit is going to include the other lines as well (i.e. m-line, expo line, etc). too bad they won't take a page out of the MTR's map on their trains. those are so much better. our maps look so dated. they will be in a year's time

I was talking to people from intransit BC about that and they said not to worry, there were other people there asking the same question as i was (about including the other lines) and they assured us that these maps will change and not all the branding is done yet.

hm. i don't know what the point of that would be, though? it looks incomplete that way. like they ran out of money or somethin'

haha...thanks, metro. glad to hear that the current maps will not be the ones that we'll be using for opening day! to be honest, those are ugly maps. treacherous. just horrible. if those were the maps the trains were going to use, i'd be embarassed by the lack of innovation

Hopefully, they haven't printed errors on other wayfinding signs at other stations....as with Lansdowne, where they had to stick on stickers to fix it.

It would be nice if they did the whole signage thing again....realistically, not very likely. And while we're at it, the font is far too small.

maybe a little harsh question, I am wondering what the ridership of Landowne station would come from? It does not seem to have cluster of mid-rises around it (unlike Richmond centre) , and also not an important stop for connecting bus (I means people would connect at Richmond centre). So , basically it would be a station serving the mall?

Given how basic the signs were and how tiny the lettering was I am half convinced that those signs were temporary and just for the open house.

*shrug*

Maybe not, though.

The mall, local residents (there's a cluster of mid-rises immediately north and west of it), bus transfers, and other local businesses.

Unfortunately, they weren't temporary.

Just got back from the open house at 2015h.

My observations:
1) The platform area looks bigger and more spacious than I expected. It's definitely much wider and open than a lot of the E/M-Line stations, especially Braid, New-West stations.

2) Sorry to disappoint you guys. A C-Line rep told me that the C-Line will NOT be branded as Skytrain, as "Skytrain" is a Bombardier product, and the C-Line trains are from Rotem (which is NOT true, as per "Skytrain" in Bangkok and not using Bombadier cars).

3) I asked the C-Line rep whether or not the rapid transit maps in all the Rotem/MKI/II trains will include all M/E/C-Lines in it, he said he is not exactly sure, as Translink is currently redesigning the entire rapid transit system map for the C-Line opening. However, he mentioned that it'll not be easy to include the C-Line because it's a N-S line compared to E-W for E/M lines (Fingers-crossed). The current map installed on the Rotem trains that you see in photos will definitely NOT be the ones when the C-Line opens in Sept. There will be modifications to it.

4) Why aren't the station signs on platform and ticketing area in RED???!!! Expo Line signs are already in BLUE!!! This totally destroys unity in branding of the rapid transit system!! But the signage throughout is actually pretty clear though. I think the signs would last longer for C-Line stations than M-Line stations, as the station signs are actually stickers, and some of it is already starting to peel off a bit at some stations there.

5) "Designated Waiting Area" should be TOWARDS THE END of the platform where the escalator/stairs are located, NOT in the middle of the platform, where it's the narrowest part of the platform. Seriously, will someone wait there? It feels claustrophobic (maybe because of the fencing).

6) The view from the station is just FANTASTIC!!

Oh, just wondering, but along the platforms on the station(s) (particularly the ones in Richmond), will there be seating on the platforms for people to take a seat while they wait for the train to arrive? I know some of the Skytrain stations in Vancouver have seating arrangements for people to sit down, while they wait for their train to arrive. Is that going to be the case with the C-line stations too?

I would sure hope there are going to be HUGE improvements over the current maps. The current ones are just embarassing. Here's hoping that Translink doesn't screw this small thing up either.

While I am (and have been) impressed with the simplicity of the design of the stations, I still wonder why the name of the station at the front couldn't have been larger, and more visible? How is anyone going to see the name "Lansdowne" in such small print? sigh. sometimes I wonder the decisions that are made...i hope they change that small detail. make it more visible so people can actually see it. but overall, yeah, i'm happy with things =)

Not true at all. SkyTrain is the name used by British Columbia Rapid Transit Company.

They aren't red because the Canada Line branding itself isn't red. This one is more of an aqua colour. M-Line STN signs aren't stickers as far as I know of... I know the WAY OUT sign is a sticker... By the way, it should've been just OUT instead of WAY OUT.

Of course. Located in the DWA.

thanks. I didn't see pictures of seats at the DWA (I don't think any were taken), so I wasn't sure.

Bombardier doesn't even call their technology "SkyTrain", they call it ALRT. And the term "SkyTrain" , as mentioned by deasine, is trademarked/copyrighted by BC Transit.

Not calling it SkyTrain is more of a choice for them, but it should be SkyTrain (and most people will call it just that) as it's the name of our region's rail system.

Does anybody know why there's a glass wall in the ticketing concourse?

Anyhow, I think the next open houses will either be Bridgeport or YVR.

Wishful thinking and short-sighted on the part of Intransit. Translink should decide the name of the system, not the contracted operator. And the people will call it Skytrain, no matter what Intransit and Translink think.

Too bad they're taking this propriety approach - it really pisses me off. It's so provincial and backwards and, so North American. I was hoping we'd take a page from Europe and Asia and go for simplicity and unity.

The lack of width at the joint, my guess is the train controls are located in this area. On the Skytrain, they're located at the ends of the car on each side of the front windows. It looks like they're relocated. There s a lot of equipment needed to run the trains, not just computers, but transformers, invertors (I assume the power source is DC third rail and the motors are AC), door controls, etc. Not all of it can fit under the floor.

^I totally agree. I mean, how hard is it to come up with unified branding and terminology? This isn't rocket science. For me, if they can't use the term SkyTrain for the whole system, then use something else, as long as it's unified. I don't care if the call it Mickey Mouse or Metro. Pick something and build a brand.
