What I mean is that you don't hand off your luggage at Waterfront, do you? You just check-in to get your boarding pass, is that right?
Otherwise, your luggage would have to be transported to YVR from Waterfront (or each of the other Canada Line stations) (by road?).

Oh no, you check in at Waterfront Station, it'll prompt you with number of non carry-on luggage you want to check in, you bring it with you to YVR, and then when you get there you hand off the luggage before you go for pre-screening or Tim's or whatever.

Yea, this is ticket check-in only. Not a full-service luggage check-in. It would be awesome if you could drop off your luggage at Waterfront as well. The Canada line was probably never designed to handle things like these though so it'll never happen.

well one day they could add a luggage cart at the end of the YVR destined trains... all you would need would be renovations at waterfront, yvr and any other station where luggage check-in would be possible, all the rest of the small platforms wouldn't even matter, because the luggage train wouldn't need to lign up with the platform.

^ or transport the luggage another way, like a truck. For all destinations besides the USA, you don't really need to travel with your luggage. They could just suggest not to check it at the train station unless your leaving a reasonable amount of time before (~90 minutes?). Of course, they would have to charge a fee for the service.

Luggage can go in the bicycle areas for YVR bound/originated trains and if demand warrants it they can add the same luggage racks that the 257 Horseshoe Bay Express buses have in the bicycle space specifically for the YVR trains. Perhaps retain space underneath the luggage rack so bicycles can still fit.
Yah most people have arranged their transfers when booking a trip - most locals will just drive unless its handy for them and its really only handy if you live in station adjacent areas

when you check in you don't hand over your luggage - you check in and than you go to a separate desk where you hand in your luggage - isn't that how it works? when I last dropped someone off thats the way they did it - there is a machine where you check yourself and than you go and hand in your bag at a bag counter

Whenever I go for international flights, I always check in and give my luggage at the same place...and make sure they don't mess up the luggage tags. Once I went with Air Canada to Toronto and then to Europe, some clueless person at the desk put YYZ as my final destination and that I would have to pick up my luggage there...thankfully I caught it and got them to put the real destination. I can only think of where my luggage would end up if I just gave it to them and walked away.

I don't know about that. My family always takes a taxi when we go to the airport from the North Shore. I'm sure that we will take the Canada Line from now on and just taxi downtown to Vancouver City Central station because it's so much cheaper.

Is southbound Cambie St. Bridge to westbound W 6th Ave offramp permanently closed or at least going to remain for cyclists and pedestrians?

No, it will be rebuilt later on. I remember that there was some info on it in this thread somewhere.

I thought in the final design they decided to permanently close the offramp because Olympic Village Station was in the way. Didn't feel like digging up what the real final design was. Thanks!

Yeah, it'll be reconstructed - but not as much of a sweeping curve as it was before - more of a straight ramp with a right turn at the bottom.

Canada Line officials are offering the public a chance to see inside a new rapid transit line station and tour the commuter trains that will soon ride the rails.

On Thursday, April 9, from 4 to 8 p.m., the Canada Line’s Lansdowne Station will swing open for tours.

“It will be the first time for members of the public to see an almost-complete station,” said spokesperson Steve Crombie.

Trains will be parked on either side of the platform and also open for tours.

Some finishing touches on the station, such as the landscaping, still need to be completed before the line opens.

That date has yet to be set, but project officials have pledged to have it open before the Labour Day weekend.

Crombie said a few more station open houses are likely to be scheduled, including at Templeton Station on Sea Island.

The $2-billion, 19-kilometre line will connect downtown Vancouver, the airport and Richmond Centre.
