One thing about the park...are any of the transit corridors (i.e. the one of the "rainbow lines" fanning from downtown) running near or through it?
One of the renders shows a train...so just wondering what line that is?
It would be nice that if you were in the Historic Core or on Bunker Hill that you could hop a train or a Dash or whatever and get to the park in a couple of minutes.

Wow, so that parking garage still has two more levels to go, huh? That's massive.

And Brig, yes, the Medallion will be 6 stories - 5 wood-framed above a concrete first floor.

According to the designs I've seen of the parking structure. The top floor will have a lap pool.

Without going through this entire thread, what has happened to this project?
I love it, but it probably met an ill fate.

^^^This one died even before the economic freefall. It never really seemed like a realistic project to begin with, but as of now, like all the other projects, the company is "Waiting to see what the market will do."

^Thanks for the update, Just-In-Cali. Sorry to hear these towers never had a chance. They could have been a nice, retro addition to the L.A. skyline.

^ At this point, it would be fantastic if the lot these towers were supposed to take were to be developed into mid-rise, mixed-use towers. There is no lack of empty lots in Downtown LA at this point. Developing these open lots with financially plausible projects (like Concerto's 7-story mid-rise) should be the direction Downtown LA should take. In addition, the South Group's standard of landscaping their surrounding property should become the main template for the rest of Downtown LA's projects to follow.

Living in Pasadena, the quality of life is extremely high (compared to the rest of auto-dependent LA) not because Pasadena has tall buildings (it doesn't), but because the city cares about the pedestrian more so than many other LA communities. Trees, grass, cleanliness, etc. all make a huge impact on the pedestrian's experience.

I really don't see the problem with Titan's project design. I think we need alot more Art Deco skyscrapers (at least 400 ft).

Too bad it's unofficially dead....

I actually think these towers would violate the proposed Downtown design standards. If I remember correctly, there is section that says that buildings taller than 150' should not have retro styles.

Great Pics QuarterMile! I need to get to that observation deck at City Hall. Despite what many have said, I actually really like that glass pattern on the Ritz. It may not suit all tastes, but it is definatly an eye catcher, and not really a bad one. I would be disapointed if we had just another light blue glass box.
Now if we could just get that Fig Central going to supplement LA Live...

Thanks! And yes, definitely get yourself up there, and definitely on a good, clear day (or night). The view was really awesome today; with the rain and wind yesterday, most of the smog was gone. You could pretty much see the entire basin. If you really looked carefully, you could see all the way over to Mt. San Jacinto, 91 miles out east!

It suprised me how easy it is to get up there, when I read about it here.

It's kinda funny, when you get up there, there's a little plaque on the railing on each side of the deck, explaining the view, and they haven't been updated since the late 70's!

More shots from City Hall Obs. Deck, yesterday.

Shiny!

The big columns below the roof of City Hall.

Behind the columns.

Wider view around LAPD HQ.

Caltrans in Foreground, Little Tokyo behind, looking out towards Palos Verdes. Look carefully on the left end of the horizon, and you can see the very faint Long Beach skyline.

The Civic and Music Centers, toward the DWP building. Hollywood Sign and Giffith Observatory in upper right.

The tower clump on Bunker Hill.

Walt Disney Concert Hall.

The U.S. Courthouse, with Olvera Street behind, to the right, and Chinatown to the left.

Federal Buildings on right, Union Station and Metro HQ on left, County/USC Medical Center behind, and Mt. San Antonio (Old Baldy Peak) in the distance.

Historic Core, looking toward LAX and El Segundo (towers on the left horizon).

More Great Shots QuarterMile...love that particular view of the skyline GymRat.
I really like the Historic Core from that angle. When seen from a distance, the buildings seem very small and unnoticable next to the towers of the financial district...but from this angle, it looks very dynamic. That is what LA is missing (among other things)...the legions of 250'-400' towers that fill in other cities skylines. We have a number of 600'+ towers standing in a sea of 100' buildings...like most sunbelt cities tend to.
Ive also been up Mt San Jacinto, and on a really clear day you can see the LA Basin from up there, and you can allegedly see the skyline with binoculars.
