Yes, while I beleive stucco is a viable finish material this particular project is just encased in it. It's overpowering and negates any visual promise the project had as a low rise infill.

I just want to know why our architects are apparently colourblind?

Gomod, all of you people have glasses, so we know that you all go to the optometrist every few years. Don't they do the colourblindess test?

I wear glasses, and yet, I've only had the colourblindness test done on me once or twice in my life (I have no colourblindess, BTW).

But yeah, I get the feeling that whoever chose the colours for places like the Venetian *gag* must've been colourblind.

^ it's a genetic thing, so if you've "passed" once that means you're good.

It still doesn't explain why so many of our buildings look like a box of crayolas threw up. How can architects have less design sense than web designers? Look at SSP's layout. If the Venetian or Parkview folks were let loose on this place it would be 48 different colours, the windows would be too small, the font would be some weird germanic caligraphy, and there would be a bunch of fake buttons that just look like buttons but that don't actually do anything.

Well maybe the government should step in and build all our new buildings then.

I'm sorry, not trying to defend the Venetian, but to compare that spending debacle that is the future athletes village at a massive cost (overruns) to the taxpayers vs. market housing is totally inaccurate.

I'll add that any who's willing to pay $500/ s/f for tilt up construction deserves what they get. You can get a suite in Quest for lower than that right now.

I was told by a contractor who frequents that new Home Depot that it literally has no one going to it yet...

oh and on that note, the Westmount Home Depot is surpassing all sales targets i was told by a solid margin.

EDMONTON — Edmonton should take advantage of cheaper prices created by the economic downturn to move ahead with important infrastructure projects, Mayor Stephen Mandel said Thursday.

The cost of construction has dropped as much as 50 per cent from two years ago, with the price of widening and rehabilitating Whitemud Drive down about $80 million, he said in a speech to the Rotary Club of Edmonton.

“We need to move fast to take advantage of these conditions on capital projects, including new federal spending, and spend to speed up some critical infrastructure projects.”

Premier Ed Stelmach said earlier this week that he wants to look at borrowing at the current low interest rates to build public projects.

But Mandel warned the city must be careful about raising taxes to pay for more debt in case that slows the local recovery.

“I remain nervous about how much we are borrowing, and I think we need to be careful to pace our debt so we’re not incurring financing costs until we’re ready to spend the money.”

Mandel also brought up the City Centre Airport, saying people must look at the best way to use the site 30 years into the future, not just today.

But with other communities and provincial politicians wading into the debate, he emphasized the issue must be resolved in a way “that is in the best interest of all Edmontonians, and I repeat, to Edmontonians.”

I guess you might be right, the website hints that there is a residential component, but the project plan is entirely unclear as to where it is going to be.

Yes, there is.

Regardless what one wants to think, this will be one of the better designed suburban retail developments in Edmonton. It's not WHYTE, DOWNTOWN, 124 STREET, etc...nor will it be able to replicate the authenticity and 'flavour' of those districts.
