^Perhaps, especially with all the great marketing images of Vancouver NBC will be spoonfeeding to American viewers.

What could've been.....the previous convention centre designs:
http://bobbea.com/expo-86/now3.html

Much Like Expo 86, The convention Centre Expansion has taken on several forms. The artist's drawing below was one of the first concepts to be unveiled. The White roof line was to match the sails of Canada Place.

Around the same time, a private developer was looking towards the east side of Canada Place. The concept here was to build a convention centre, parks, plazas, a hotel and a brand new seabus terminal. Much of the cost was to be absorbed by the developer. There was a catch, however. Wynn wanted to build a large, Las Vegas style casino, very much like one of its Las Vegas franchise.

The third concept was perhaps the most streamlined and stylish of the bunch -- even if it looked a bit like an overtturned canoe.

^ Interesting! Are they planning anything for the other side of Canada Place?

Allen,
Check out the thread about the waterfront transit hub,
it's the current plan for the build-out of that part of town,
complete with new roads and buildings.

I'm glad they went with the design that they did. I don't like the other designs much.

Well there is a high likelyhood that you guys will get to see the roof in the first design supplanted on another project in the city of Vancouver in the near future. Looks even better this go around than it does there.

Also my 0.2... I don't really love any of the proposals, or what we went with, but if i had to choose I'm happy we went with what we did.

Hopefully not... that is some boring shit for a new art gallery. Give us some freaky Zaha Hadid design.
PLEASE don't crap out on this Vancouver!!! I would not be surprised though. Aim for world class but then be afraid of being too interesting...

I'm kinda in the same boat. I did like the white roof on that first proposal, to match Canada Place, but after having a tour of the Convention Centre and seeing what they did inside, the plan they went with is quite spectacular. I never did see that proposal for east of Canada Place. Pretty cool, but not exactly what I'd want there either.

No, it's not the art gallery, this project is much further along in the planning stages than the art gallery.

Constructing the tourist info booth (I think). Read back a few pages for another picture of the same structure. Renders were posted somewhere a while back too...

This one is NOT the Wynn Seaport Centre proposal.
This one is the Concert Properties Convention Centre Expansion (the winning bidder from Concert (east of Canada Place), Marathon (present VCCEP site west of Canada Place) and Concord (Larwill Park/Spectrum site near GM Place as seen on Bing Thom's website), after both Concord and Marathon dropped out of a P3 process). But Concert Properties and the Province (was it NDP at the time or Liberal?) could not agree on business terms, so the project was shelved and the Province had to go it alone (on the Marathon site west of Canada Place). The tall tower shown would have been a Marriott Hotel (and I think the shorter one would have been a future office tower). The project would also have pushed the Seabus Terminal much farther into Burrard Inlet, as you can see from the rendering (i.e. alligned with the end of Canada Place before the extension).

The ICBC site is destined for highrises and towers, it wouldn't fit the original convention centre design.
