Yes, I misread the article. Shutting 102a is a great idea, and now the costs make sense as well.

It probably mostly refers to the cost replacing the pavement with paving stones. That was part of the original churchill square plan.

You're right, I got confused. From here:

The building I was thinking of was at 124 & 104 where the Pizza 73 is now:

And here's a picture of the High Street area:

I'm just curious if it filled in between then and the 90's, because I don't remember.

good to see... even with my maintained belief that it is acceptable but not what should end up there.

When he was telling me about the "packages" home hardware (or similar) sells, they have about 4 or 5 designs to choose from; all relatively the same. Garage doors, 2 windows, back porch etc. - (a smaller version of what you would see in suburban areas of North America). A 2 story frame cabin including dormer windows cost him about $50,000 including all materials, transportation, services (pickering the skids in etc.).

How easy would it be to offer something like this? People would EAT it up! The designs are easy enough that even an amateur contractor could build, given the right instructions & materials. I'd imagine the largest single-cost would be to grade and placement of the steel skids.

Seeing Albertans are pretty outdoorsy people, I'm sure offering a high end product like this that you could build yourself would do very, very well.

^ That's pretty neat. I''d put something like that on my land in the Kootenays.

Its say that it's built for the desert. I wonder if it could be designed for our climate as cost effectively.

I would guess slightly more but not prohibitive by any means.
