The trades industry seems to be booming in Manitoba.
So much so one of Canada's largest construction company's even setting up a new sub-office here in Winnipeg.
That suites apprentice program students from Red River College just fine.
"We probably have more apprentices coming through here than anytime in the past," says Red River College-Construction Coordinator
Mike Watson.
Watson says he is seeing a boom in Manitoba's labour industry. He says up until recently, many trained professionals left the province.
"I think a lot of the graduates are staying here, and typically a lot of the people that have gone off to work in Alberta seem to be coming back," adds Watson.
Student Stephen Moore says his future in Manitoba seems bright.
"No lack of work; there's gonna be work for years and even when new constructions slow down a little there's always renovations," says Moore.
The reason for Ellis-Don moving an office into the province is simple.
"We look at the economy across Canada and we really do find that Manitoba's the place to be," says company spokesperson Darryl Fife.
Darryl fife heads up Ellis-Don Corporation's Manitoba office.
Ellis-Don has offices across Canada and around the world, but the countries second largest construction company just set up shop in Winnipeg this past November.
"I think Manitoba is doing much better than other parts of the country for sure, and I think if you're young and smart, trades is a good place to be," adds Fife.
The company's big project so far is Winnipeg's James Richardson International Airport.
Fife says Ellis-Don has several bids for construction jobs in the works and sees hundreds of jobs coming for Manitobans.
