Carbon looks really interesting inside... but i have yet to check it out.

I cannot wait until next winter when the hoarding for Icon comes down and new trees get planted in 2010.

^ Sometimes I find it hard to take these kind of "green" boutiques seriously. I get their intentions, and they have an obvious environmentally conscious customer base, but really - any type of consumerism is bad for the environment (from manufacturing to shipping to end use); but hey it's great to see this type of store open up on 104th. I don't know if I would go out of my way to buy some "sustainable furniture"; but if I'm in the area I might pick up some cleaning goods etc.

Anyways. Moving along

it isn't about being bad, it is about being less bad... same as a LEED designed building versus a standard building.

both use materials, energy, etc... but one could use less harmful materials, fewer toxic chemicals, more locally produced/manufactured products, and strategies to reduce its footprint.

A bit off topic, but since we're talking about local businesses I thought some of you may be interested in this local furniture design firm.
http://www.izm.ca/
I saw them advertising in a magazine and was shocked (pleasantly surprised) to see at the bottom

San Francisco - Miami - Calgary - Edmonton

They do it all right here in etown.

There was a company in Edmonton that designed and made furniture. I think it was called HotBox (might still be around) - but the furniture used on the sets of friends and frazier were made by this company.

SHO - i just noticed your tag... pure awesome.

My friend used to own an Edmonton based ID firm, Element Living, but sadly to make a go of it here is very very hard so he left for Tdot/nyc.

http://www.landliving.com/articles/0000000988.aspx

i own the "lucy" (original) and the "relax" as pictured there.
