Oh god ravman's dp scared the hell out of me >___>

Well Mr.X was just a little frustrated and I can understand his frustration. Nevertheless, Allen we welcome you here. I would like to remind everyone that we should be going back to previous pages and reading through them before asking any questions. If you are asking it, the chances are, someone has asked it before you. There's always a search function here at SSP and Google search.

Thanks for the kind words and warm welcomes...I promise I'll do the searches before I ask. Thanks for solving my problems yesterday...all of you are great people and I'll stay if you let me...

check out Gordon Price's latest blog entry:

Shopping List
Lisa Brideau, a planner at the City of Vancouver, sends along a chart she culled from a Canada Line study. It shows the number of people who came by various modes of transportation to Downtown, Cambie Street and No. 3 Road in Richmond:

What jumps out for me is the astonishingly low number of people in Downtown Vancouver who arrive by car - only 15 percent.

As Lisa notes:
So, if anyone wonders how important parking should be to merchants (versus, perhaps, a nice pedestrian realm, or improved transit facilities), this should be of interest: for Downtown Vancouver 87% of people arrived by walking/transit/bike. For Cambie Village, 76% arrived by walking/transit/bike.
She also picks up an important consideration when looking at the numbers for No.3 Road:
Note that the stats for No 3 road should probably be read with a grain of salt since they interviewed people on the sidewalk and the only people that would be using the sidewalk would be people taking transit - anyone driving wouldn’t leave the parking lot.
Still, it’s likely that after the Canada Line opens, the ratio should shift somewhat. I’d guess that more people in South Vancouver will begin to consider Richmond a more realistic option for shopping than, say, Metrotown or even Downtown.

As for Cambie, that will be the street to watch. Only 15 percent arrive by transit at the moment. Any guesses on what it will be when the Canada Line opens? (Rumour alert: I hear the line might open considerably ahead of the November start-up date if current progress continues.)
http://pricetags.wordpress.com/2009/01/26/shopping-list/

& I bet the ratio would shift a little more than "somewhat" if Cambie didn't just have the Canada Line, but if it were as dense as downtown also! (think of that Landcor study that came out in August - p.78 post#1552) If there were too many people living along there for everyone to use their cars what other choice would they have, except to use transit?

SkyTrain/Canada Line - Bus Integration Open Houses
JOIN US AT AN OPEN HOUSE highlighting the proposed changes to bus routes affected by the opening ofthe new Canada Line in 2009. Representatives from Coast Mountain Bus Company and TransLink will beon hand to address any questions regarding this Bus Integration Plan. We encourage you to attend – your feedback is important to us.
Wait.. did they just called Canada Line as "SkyTrain"... or it was meant to be "SkyTrain and Canada Line"? (I don't think this has anything to do with Expo and Millennium Line, right?)

I don't think it means anything. I think "SkyTrain" will be the unofficial general term for all of Metro Vancouver's Rail Rapid Transit Systems. We still have to remember that the British Columbia Rapid Transit Company, or SkyTrain, only operates the Expo and Millennium Lines. The Canada Line will be operated by InTransitBC.

I'm surprised TransLink would make such an error, but like I said, it's the unofficial term. No one's going to care about it, not even the guys at InTransitBC. Only people will be discussing over this is us XD

So the actual canopy roof of King Edward Station is wood?
The canopy roof structure is wood with tar and gravel on top?

I guess what I saw at Vancouver City Centre Station would be the same too (and the Richmond Stations?)
I had always assumed that the wood was just surface panelling and that the main elements were aluminum or steel.

Yes... Tafryn posted new photos and you can see it. I'll let Mr.X do the honours.

Looks a bit odd to me, at least in picture (as with King Ed, 41st, 49th).

This must be the only metro system in the world to use wood in the station designs.

It would be great if it's used extensively throughout the underground stations... so much warmer/humane than concrete.

^So true. The elevated stations in Richmond look and feel so warm when the lights that are turned on are mixed in with the wooden roof panels.

Is King Edward designed so that a building can be built above it? If so, I hope it's a modern version of a Leslie Green Underground Station in London; like this:

Yes, it is. A 4 storey wood frame condo will be built above the entrance.
