There's a Waterfront Station entrance not too far away (basically right outside the original convention centre). It's a bit of a walk from the expansion but still only a minute or two.

EDIT: The real expansion is actually even closer than that rough footprint I drew.

Have there been any updates on the Waterfront Station hub plan? or was that just some hallucination I had over the summer?

too bad there wasn't plans for a station closer to the convention expansion centre. It would have been much more convenient for people who are attending the convention. But there aren't any future plans for a station near the Vancouver Convention expansion, right?

^There are no plans for SkyTrain, but if the streetcar gets put in it will run quite close by it with a possible station. There probably won't be a station right outside the front door but either way it will be (and the current Waterfront Station entrance is) a very short walk from the building.

I was wondering about that as well, so I contacted a COV planner. Here is what he had to say:

"We're working on some revisions to the concept plan that we used for the
April 2008 Open Houses and also writing up a draft document that will go
to Council for approval in April. We'll be having some more Open Houses
to consult on this revised plan and draft document in February".

I'd hope that the transportation hub plans will provide for a link to Canada Place. Hopefully we'll find out soon!

There is already an entrance/access point to the Waterfront skytrain station through the Fairmont at Waterfront Centre isn't there? It is a little bit of a walk, but it can be done all underground until you come out at the lobby of 200 Burrard. From there it's only one walk across the street and you're there. It's been a while since I've been down there, but I seem to remember there being signs down there past the food court.

Acutally you never have to go outside to get to the convention centre from either the Canada Line or the Expo line during business hours. You walk into Waterfront Centre then thru the food court and straight into the exisinting Convention centre, from there you can walk into the new convention centre w/o going outside, and it will also connect via tunnel to the new Fairmont pacific rim.
The walk from Waterfront to the convention centre is probably only 200-300m and takes less then a few minutes.

^true, I do this walk all the time getting from work to the skytrain. In fact I think there might already be a way to get to the convention centre, although I have never explored. If not it would most likely be a simple process to one day expand the underground path to the convention centre, but considering our mild climate there isnt really a pressing need.

There is a passage being built between the old and the new convention centres (basically under the north side of the Canada Place Way viaduct) - so SkyTrain will be accessible from the VECC expansion via underground passages.

He's right, the entrance to the mall (and skytrain) right next to the fairmont pacific rim, barely a block away, and yes, you can walk directly in to canada place from underground. So while there could be a few more corridors, remember, for a long time vancouver was dead-set against too much above and below ground crossings, since they wanted to keep the streets bustling, unlike calgary for instance

I like the thick bold lines of the roof, makes it look like a powerful, important building.

There's something messy and generally obtuse about the design that I like. It's not pretty, but rather angular, utilitarian, dry, and yet still daring.

The Fairmont looks taller then Shaw. Is that at all accurate?

The actual design for the Marina and Seaplane terminal has changed slightly. Access will be from the upper walkway on the convention centre via 2 staircases. The layout of the dock/slips is also slightly changed. For the better I think. Not sure what the timeline for that is though.
