Marriott Downtown completes renovation

...The Marriott's rooms received new carpet, drapes, pillow-top mattresses and headboards with reading lights. Larger windows were installed in each room.

Each room also has a 37-inch, high-definition television and a laptop hub. Guests can plug in laptops and view them on the televisions, O'Neill said.

In the lobby is a new Starbucks Coffee, a seating area and a new business center.

Installation of the new windows began 18 months ago. Room renovations began Oct. 15, starting on the 16th floor and working down to the 2nd floor, which was finished Tuesday afternoon, O'Neill said. The hotel does not have a 13th floor...

No. That is not at all what the court said. Govt. does have that power. They can use it. But only if they can demonstrate a public use. They also have to pay fair market value. The Kelo case was not about simply taking private property and turning it over to a developer. It was about what constitutes a public use. The court ultimately determined that economic development is a public benefit and that it falls under the umbrella of public use. But the govt. was not taking land simply because the owners were derilect. They took it to assemble land to stimulate development, to improve public access to a waterway and to realign roads. Far different than taking a vacant piece of land whose owner is having a difficult time getting financing.

At the end of Kelo case, government did not have any different powers than it did before the case.

Oh, ok. Thst makes sense. It's hard to keep all the buildings straight since down town played musical chairs and shuffled them all around.

Just from that first image, I am glad Triad Center did not get built. It looks like something that belongs in a satellite city rather than a downtown. The architecture for residential buildings has no character (IMO).

Neither is the 10-story buildings in its place is an improvement.

bad porno music came from youtube. Lately youtube has been cracking down on videos with music. Due to the issues with copyright alot of the 3rd party jerk offs are getting butt hurt with people like me using their music for videos so therefor some of my videos got removed. So from now on when I make a video with music I had to pick music from a list that youtube has on their website.

It's stupid really, Even I think the music sucks. LOL

As for the rendering I found them off of the Neverbuilt thread on this same website.

I don't know, I quite like the renderings for the block East of the Triad Center (current parking lot). Looks like something that would fit in well with Salt Lake, especially on South Temple.

My freakin videos were removed too! I was sooo bugged by it! I showed those stupid videos to all of my friends.

Metrofanatic is right. It all has to do with lens focal length. The Shots where the mountains appear huge and very close were shot with a very long lens i.e. 400mm+
The image of Liberty Park with the Avenues appearing as though they are a block away was also shot with this type of long lens. The term sometimes used is "compression" as in compression of close and far away objects. They also used a small aperture setting somewhere around f16-f22 so that foreground and background are both in focus. The images that make objects appear far away from each other are created with a shorter focal length usually 50mm or less.

Just kidding but seriously:

Cool video of a complex that was well beyond the scope of SLC in the 80's. However, today it would have been the perfect example of progressive thinking.

That price is the cost of a fairly decent moderate high rise today.

The conceptual layout of the buildings and design was awesome. A real and central location that would have seriously expanded the scope and area of the west side...not to mention the entire down town. Cool find!

Your Downtown is absolutely beautiful and seems very peaceful; summer or winter. I wish more could be said for the downtown areas here on the East Coast.

I wish it was less peaceful and more active.

Downtown Salt Lake is extremely nice, but at times, also extremely dead.

A non-vibrant downtown isn't something I look to as a luxury.

However, I do believe we're getting there and I actually am jealous of the activity of some east coast cities.

What I have noticed with East Coast cities, is that the "Finanacial Districts" are dead after working hours, however there are areas just outside thier financial districts that have life. Also remember the larger East Coast cities from DC to Boston have crtical mass in their urban cores, therefore keeping their respective city centers active.

Hopefully CCC will make the Downtown area a bit more vibrant. Also, since Utah is now the fastest growing State in the Nation, I hope the SLC governement and area developers will capatilize on this and bring more residents to Downtown thus providing the critical mass to support a more vibrant Downtown.

I think you guys are getting there in a good way.

It obviously depends on the city. Salt Lake ten years ago was a tomb downtown and now it's slowly turning into a 24 hour city.

I remember being downtown a few years ago taking photos, it was a Saturday afternoon and it was just me and the occasional car or two. Very post-apocalyptic feel to the city.

That's slowly changing, though.
