Honestly, think about how much better our mass transit system is going to be by the end of this year compared to 2000 (remember, back then the M-line was still u/c). And then think about all the great expansions to take place over the next 5 to 10 years. With these new cars, the C-line, the Expo renovations and the evergreen line we will actually have a good system, especially if the UBC and Surrey extensions happen along with downtown's street car and the interurban.

Well, it looks like they kinda shoehorned it in there. I can't see anywhere else they can put it without redesigning the front.

Stop nit picking, they look just fine to me and having the destination signs will be 10X better than not having them. Quick question - Do they plan on re-painting and installing destination signs into the old M2 cars? Also what about the old M1 cars?

The new trains look great! Wow this has been a super day for me so far with these wonderful bits of news! First a guy who was going to sell me these 17" rims who couldn't anymore decided he would sell them to me after all, now new MKIIs! w00t!!!

I remember with the first gen MKIIs they were praising how clean it looked on the inside... but the absence of horizontal bars and narrow aisles were a bad deal. These trains are what the original MKIIs should've been, but meh hindsight's always 20/20 eh? Perhaps they can remove some seats from the first gens to increase capacity.

Can't wait to ride these!

It's a post-design modification. The alternative would be to make the window smaller and have painted aluminum frame the display. That may look worse.

The bars look like straphanger equivalent down the middle of the ceiling of the car. I think the yellow coating is anti-microbial.

Found this relating to TO's Bombardier order:
Quote:
...Toronto Transit Commission is planning to order the first subway cars with "an antimicrobial covering on all surfaces that are meant to be held, such as vertical and horizontal bars and metal handles."

They look great. I really hope they do re-paint the current MkI's and II's so the entire fleet matches. Some MkI's haven't even recieved their first paintjob to match the first gen. MkII's.

So we have a batch of 48 cars arriving (I guess the orders of 34 and 14 have been combined somewhere along the line?). I believe there's also supposed to be an order for 24 more cars to arrive in 2011 or something. That's a total of 72 new MKII cars, compared to the 60 we have now (according to Wikipedia). Hopefully between those two orders that's enough to start running 4 car MK2 and 6 car MK1 trains during rush hour while maintaining the frequencies that we have now.

Looking at the Canada Line car front display, they have the surround painted in black, that would help a bit. Yes I am being picky, but it just really sticks out like a sore thumb.

The joint in the middle is that ugly yellow? I hope that the joint isn't made of the same material as the mk2.0's and smells gross after X number of years.

They haven't installed the articulated joint yet. It's just a board covering the opening.

Back in October, the West Coast Express hit an excavator that was on the tracks. My wife was on this train. Scary dog poo!

Is it possible if someone can do a photoshop of a C-Line train with this new Mk2.1 Bombardier train's paint scheme? Thanks!! Let's compare
This paint scheme for MK2.1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> C-Line trains. C-Line trains should've gotten this paint scheme, so that it represents a unified rapid transit system. Don't get me wrong though, the C-Line's paint scheme is decent, but this one is quite a stunner.

So long as it doesn't smell. Has anybody noticed that?

The new design looks amazing and i'm glad to see a new and more efficient seating arrangement, electronic displays, and a ton more bars!

Why do the new trains still don't use the longitudinal seating arrangement, a la HK MTR style? You could've have more seating space AND standing space compared to Translink's idea of taking a seat of each row out. ARGGGHHH....Translink is so hell-bent on using transverse seating arrangement. Now they're even taking out seats.

At least Translink FINALLY understands the importance of putting horizontal bars onto the new MKII trains. But why don't they also install hanging circular handles so that shorter people can hold onto them? That's so common sense. They should've also done the same to the C-Line trains, as they are much wider, making horizontal bars even more necessary, especially for the people that are in the middle of the train, and far away from any vertical bars.

Also, do you think the new MKII cars will be married to the existing MKII ones when in operation?

Good to see they don't have the cringe-inducing best place on earth slogan

The markII cars smell like lubricant (like cutting fluid) in the articulated joint.
