There is an application made to the city to convert residential units on 13th Ave to commercial use.

I beleive I drove by there last week. It is just a house that will no doubt be converted to a shop or restaurant.

I walk by there all the time. It looks like the application covers all houses on that block which are located on 13th av.

Here is a little look back, I figure around 1972. This is the Regina Inn and Victoria Tower under construction.

Regina Inn

Wasn't the Regina Inn built in the late 1960s? There was an article of lies in the Misleading Post, dated 2008 November 13, saying that the building "is in its 41st year right now".

According to the Regina Inn website, they've been open since 1967. Which would make it 41 years, but who knows if that's the actual construction completion year as well.

I have to give the Regina Inn kudos for still being called the Regina Inn.

I'm thinking that picture Darthrider posted -- great share by the way -- is showing the whatever they call it now hotel on the NW corner of Broad and Victoria and not the Regina Inn.

I suppose the picture could be older.

In the pile of pictures that it was found in it was the only picture from the 60's or 70's. There were a bunch more from the very early days of Regina, I didn't post them because I didn't recognize anything.

A little off topic but I was wondering if anyone had any construction pictures of the west side upper deck of Taylor Field. From what I have heard it opened for the 1979 season. I have always been curious about that project and how they would have done it. I was only 5 when it would have opened for use so I have no memory of the project.

It is not the Ramada or Sheraton, as you can see the old Service Centre is across (currently Sask-Energy) the street. As well from my office I can see the circular part that they are constructing in the picture as part of the finished roof.

Are you sure about that? That service station was on the SW corner of Broad & Vic, just north of Trifon's Pizza, before it was demolished. That being the case, this looks like the construction of the building on the NW corner, which would make it the Sheraton/Ramada.

I'm going to have to agree with drm310 here. That's a pretty a pretty severe fish eye lens used in that photograph, like 18 mm. Distortion-o-plenty. Existing buildings line up far better with that picture being the construction of Ramada/Sheraton and not the Regina Inn. Were that the Regina Inn, the "Goodyear" Auto Service Centre, even with the depth distortion created with the fish eye lens, would appear much further away as the intersection of Broad Street and Victoria Avenue would be in the picture.

Someone go walk past "Victoria Tower" today. Didn't it have a different name before, like Humpford House? HomeInMyShoes, didn't you work in that building once? If my record collection serves me justly, there should be a plate with construction or finish dates at the front entrance.

Fun picture, regardless.

Talking to some of the older guys I work with they confirmed that it is the Regina Inn but it was the renovation and installation of the pool that is shown in the photo. The original part of the Regina Inn went up in the 60's. I also got confirmation that where Sask Energy is now there used to be a service station along with the service station that was across Victoria Ave. beside what is now the Roof Top.

Anyway, I thought it was a cool photo and fun to discuss while we wait for new construction to pop up.

It's possible it could be the Regina in in the picture, but it's too close to "Victoria Tower" for my eyes. Yes, I worked in "Victoria Tower." But that was a long time ago. At least four other buildings and four cities since those days when the Earth was still barely non-molten.

The city has halted condo conversions, but will deal with the 22 applications already in queue. They are waiting on the province to bring in some kind of affordable housing package.

I note that there is a construction (demolition?) fence around the former Beth Jacob Synagogue on Victoria and Osler. This was most recently a printing business but that has moved to the former ambulance station on Sask Dr. Does anyone know what is planned for the former Synagogue?

I think you're right "drm310". According to some old timers that is the Goodyear Service Centre on the SW corner of the intersection. So this building would be the 2 storey portion of the Ramada hotel located straight north of that, on the NW corner of the intersection. Also if you take a look at the existing Ramada tower you see a large column in the middle and three smaller columns to the east...the picture matches that exactly. And by the way, the tower under construction was called the Humford House, designed by Building Design Partnership. My high level source advised me that it features "hand bush hammered" concrete...but he's having trouble recalling what year it was built!
