*l*no,not even close. If you tried and go to www.jlousa.com it used to be held by jlo usa ltd, now it appears to be some domain name holding company that's sitting on it. Maybe I should've sued her for defamation, with Jackie Chiles as I lawyer I couldn't lose.

I think the purpose of the "middl;e finger" was for people who buy downtown and then immediately want it changed - ie. moving into coal harbour and then demanding that the sea planes be moved as they are too loud.

I too live on robson - what bar are you referring to?

That's very different then moving into coal harbour if there weren't seaplanes then have someone propose a seaplane terminal and be shocked if the residents complain and expect them to just accept it because they chose to live downtown.

Hopefully we can all agree on that.

That mentality happens everywhere, when i was young my family lived on a small hobby farm in Maple Ridge, and then some new neighbors from the city moved in and the next week we got a letter in our mail box asking if we could keep our rooster quiet in the morning

I am pretty sure tying a birds beak closed would be animal cruelty.

Well i live on Kingsway, and i am aware when i moved here that Kingsway is the main commercial street in the Metrotown area. Therefore i should not be surprised if a new office complex, shopping center, bar, movie theater, club, etc... is proposed beside or near where i live. That is the nature of the beast. If such facilities are proposed i will not protest against them, because i want Kingsway to remain the commercial entertainment hub of the area, that is why i moved here - and the same should go for those who move on Robson or Granville and other such streets.

I basically object to anyone who doesn't live in Vancouver spouting off about this or that. Non-residents have some gall trying to take ownership over a city they don't live in.

People should mind their business or better yet go to their own City Hall and complain there.

I guess I’m the odd man out as far as the Seaplanes are concerned. Most people that live in CH really like them and for people that visit Victoria a lot (me) their location is a dream.
BUT, their motor design is old, and they need to put a "muffler" on it. Also, the twin turbo engine ones are much quieter than the single engine ones.
I see it in the same light, as when the City replaced the old really LOUD buses with today’s new and quiet ones, nothing dramatic, just progress.
I have a feeling that once the BC Government’s baby AKA "Convention Centre" is up and running and delegates have to stop talking and put their fingers in their ears to block out the noise and then complain, the writing will be on the wall for Harbour Air and Westcoast Air.
Then it will be just a matter of time before the powers to be protect their future booking interests and put the screws to any outside detrimental entity.

I doubt it, those planes have been in use since the second world war, and I doubt one convention centre expansion will cause the end to their reign. The planes are very reliable and quite easy to maintain... aside from the noise they are a very very good plane. Also keep in mind the existing convention centre is right next to where they land/take off already and its still business as usual.

I've got a feeling moving the seaplane terminal to in front of the convention centre will actually decrease the overall noise. Obviously it won't change the take off/landing, but the noise of firing the planes up and taxiing and all that should be masked by convention centre itself, just because of the sheer size of the building.

Agreed on my part. My problem is with people moving into an area with something already there (ie seaplanes, skytrain etc) and then complaining. However, I do also have a problem with people moving downtown and then expecting it to be quiet. I too get pissed off when I hear drunken people in my alley yelling at 4 in the morning but I live with it because of the benefits that I derive from being downtown. Each area has its positives and negatives.

I don't think we'll see the end of the seaplanes in coal harbour anytime soon, besides the cruise ships make much more noise as they blow their horn while leaving.
I work right next to the seaplanes( I can throw a rock and hit them) and to be honest I never hear them unless there's a door or window open.

I always thought that the area next to the seabus was a better location as it ties in with the transportation hub much better.

The residents of Coal Harbour also think that would be a better location. However it doesn't work for a number of reasons - choppy water, interfering with frequent seabus crossings (which will eventually get more frequent with 3 seabuses), interfering with cruiseship operations, distance from the take-off/landing zone, etc. I understand it was looked at rather exhaustively and just isn't workable.

But the main point should be that the seaplanes were there long before the railyard in Coal Harbour turned into condo towers. And these buyers should be told to f-off.

Metro's got some good points but I might suggest he learn not to say This Is The Way and remember that other folks' opinions on city growth are as valid as his, whether most people agree with them or not - as that's what they are, opinions.

I personally am intrigued by the renaissance of the 'great white way'/the creation of Times Square Vancouver. I am equally intrigued by the idea that our city could become the first top-tier Garden City; perhaps, rather than acquiesce to others' notions of 'world-class city' we redefine the entire idea. . .?
