It would be great if QC had a CFL team, with one in Ottawa again soon that would make for 10 teams and a better league since you won't have to play the same 7 other teams again and again. I wonder who will get the next team after QC, maybe Halifax? Victoria? Saskatoon even?

That would be great to see QC get a team as well as Ottawa get one back - as long as they pick a new name hehe.

Out of Halifax, Victoria and S'toon:

Victoria wouldn't have enough fan support, let alone build a 25,000 seat stadium within the next 20 years lol.

S'toon wouldn't fly either. Too small a population base to draw from and they would need to poach fans and corporate support from the Roughriders. The Regina team being viable requires support from the whole province.

Halifax - I'm not sure, but I think this is the most probable location if the CFL was to add another team beyond QC and OTT. The Maritimes is not represented in the CFL. Halifax would have what? 750,000 to draw from within a reasonable driving distance? Hell, Moncton, NB is closer to Halifax than S'toon is to Regina, and Nova Scotia is the second most densely populated province in the country.

I am not necessarily cheering for any Maritime city on this one but Moncton has a stadium currently under construction:

It will initially be too small for the CFL but as the article says, could be relatively easily expanded to CFL size. Not sure they could do this very easily with the largest stadium in Halifax (Huskies Stadium).

Halifax offers a much larger metro population than Moncton, though the smaller city of Moncton offers a better location pretty much at the centre of the Maritimes’ transportation network. Moncton is an easy drive from PEI, Saint John, Halifax, Fredericton, whereas Halifax is at the extreme eastern end of the Maritimes. I don’t see anyone from PEI, Fredericton or Saint John driving to Halifax for CFL games, but I do see people from these places going to Moncton. The only largish city Halifax could draw from outside its metro would be Moncton.

So should the CFL decide to go east, it really would be a bit of a toss-up between those two cities.

I hate to be a downer, but Calgary is hosting the western final, which means they'll automatically lose. Doesn't the host of the Western final lose almost every year?

I just found out I'll be at the Stamps game tomorrow as a buddy of mine scored some free tix. While on paper one may think this game is the Stamps' to lose, I think it is going to be a nail-biter as the Lions are not to be underestimated. I will of course be rooting for the good guys, but I dare not make predictions on the outcome. Still, a Stamps-Esks Grey Cup Final is within the realm of possibility, and it would be absolutely awesome if that were to happen (for Alberta, at least).

It would be interesting to research that to see if that ends up being the case but I bet it may not be that way that the host automatically loses...home team advantage is never that big of a deal in the finals and I bet it is closer to
50-50 with a slight edge to the away team.

As for the Montreal - Edmonton game, it is very rare that the host city of the Grey Cup ends up at the Grey Cup. I think the last time that happened was in 2002 in Edmonton and the Eskimos lost and in 1994 in Vancouver and the Lions won. Usually the host team chokes before they reach the Grey Cup...my prediction is that Edmonton will win today. A Battle of Alberta would be great.

There is a "CFL in the Maritimes" thread in the Atlantic Canada section of the forums. There has been a healthy debate going on in this thread re: the merits of Moncton vs. Halifax as a potential CFL site. You guys should come over and check it out.

I'm gonna make the long-shot prediction and say Edmonton and BC in the Grey Cup. I think Edmonton will win, but Calgary will choke when given the opportunity to play us in the final. I'd prefer a Battle of Alberta final though. After seeing Saskatchewan and Winnipeg last year, I say lets keep this rivalry tradition going in the Grey Cup final.

Since 1987, the road team has won 14 of the last 21 western finals. If you look at it that way, things don't look good for Calgary.
